i know i have the book just need more instructions on how to do it...i i didn't had trouble but i stopped at step 60 just because i didn't folded precisly and the model looked like sh*t when i got to step 60. Anyways i'm going to start again in a few days so i'll need all the help i can get Very Happy

same things happening!! i cant find any good folding paper here in argentina, they all end up broken by step 50 - 60... im using a common sheet from the library!! what do u recomend for the first try?

@federicoh Well for my first attempt i just used 60x60cm wrapping paper. Its not the best paper, but at the time it was the most accessible. You can at least finish the model with the paper, but shaping may be difficult. Just take your time with the model: make clean folds, and make sure things line up as much as possible, dont just settle for what is "good enough" for the next step because it may result in the next steps being much harder. Hope that advice helps

one alternative is to tape 4 pieces of 25 cm kami together. the end result will not be presentable, however. otherwise, no one can tell you in advance what local papers will work--it will mostly be trial and error, barring finding a folder in argentina who can make better recs.

federicoh: Have you considered using gift tissue? That kind of paper is commonly found in sheets of 18" x 24" and can be found even larger. It is can be found in different weights but tends to be around 20 gsm (very rough estimate). Depending on the manufacturer, it can be somewhat fragile but you could always try adding a sizing agent to strengthen it. Of course, buying tissue paper also opens up the door to making tissue foil as well.

Tissue paper is unfoldable without adding MC. Many people have had a lot of success with double tissue, with is two sheets of tissue paper MCed together. Look for paper like Lokta, Gampi, Washi, Unryu, Hanji, etc. These will all need to be sized with MC before folding. Thick watercolor paper is good for simple models, and kraft paper can be good, too.

Not gampi. It's crazy expensive though. Still, added MC can't hurt as long as you do it right.

When folding the model i get the best result out of origamido, double tissue, and mulbary with mc.

I used mulberry paper with MC.

I have folded without adding size to tissue paper and it works fine. However, you would eventually need to add some kind of sizing agent to shape the model if you were folding the Ancient Dragon and wanted it to look like Kamiya's.

Okaaay I have started folding the ancient dragon had samo troubble with steps 66-67 but came through eventually...Now i'm curently on step 136 and i must say that i don't really know how to do it. Steps 136-147 look very confusing and i was wondering if i could skip them?? But some pictures will be a great help !!

EDIT: Doesn't matter anymore i skipped them already now i'm on step 182

ill try some kraft paper, here its very cheap and can be bought on libraries. i tried using the kite paper (the one you can use to make really nice kites

) but when i get to step 66 its a mess xD or maybe ill try with tracing paper, i used that for the unicorn and seems to be good... thnkx for the replys!!

What i don't understand here is how to reach that series of reverse folds...when i try to open one of the layers on the back leg it looks nothing like the diagram at 201 and i can't do the pleats

In the front leg i don't even know what to open

@DaMaster Ok ill try my best to explain this...

At step 200 you have something like this...

Then it tells you to open up the first layer. What you need to do is undo one of the pleats of the claws (open it out), and then you will fold it back as indicated with mountain-valley lines.

Step 204: Once you open the first pleat and fold it back, do that for the rest of them. And you will have something like this... (2 views)

Then make series of inside-reverse folds to thin out the claws, and your claws should look like this: *Do this on the other four legs*

Maybe that makes more sense? Hope that helped

^Are the ends made in roughly the same way as the Yellow Bird legs?
