Nice job, topsu. If I do say so myself, you've one-upped me with that one. :)

Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.

Thank you, though it's mostly all about the paper. I hope you get some nice paper soon, too.

Were you able to fold this deer? Is there enough information in the crease pattern?

Are you talking about the shaping after the base?

I apologize, that was a very vague post. I'm new to crease patterns, but I have read Robert Lang's book "Origami Design Secrets" It was suggested to me that the crease pattern from Lang's websight for the white tailed deer didn't have enough information to get to the base. But have you been able to? Are there enough lines drawn to get to the base?

Yes, there are enough lines to get to the base. All crease patterns are just the bases of the models, so I can hardly see just how much more separated the CP can be from the finished model.
And as you can see, some people did manage to complete the model (me and Topsu), so there must have been enough information in the CP. ;)

Don't worry about the vagueness, Lyon. It'll dissapear after a while.

I was wondering if I could ask for some help with this, as I am am a beginer with cp's. I noticed the pleat in the hind legs easy enough. Is there another pleat of the same thikness at the top of the cp, or is that just a river. Also, how can we fold the quadrilaterals at the top? Is that related to the pleat?

Those aren't pleats. Those are called "rivers". They separate the circles in the CP. Don't know what i'm talking about? Watch this video (of Robert Lang explaining it).

If you are a beginner in CPs, this piece will be pretty hard with complex landmarks, however, if you truly want to try, browse through the thread and if you need help, post photos of where you are stuck.
Good luck!!!

quadrilaterals

Post by lyon0100 »

I was wondering if anyone could help me understand how to collapse the two quadrilaterals at the top of the CP

http://www.langorigami.com/art/mammals/ ... eer_cp.pdf

It seems almost like a gusset molecule, but he has a mountain fold over a valley fold. It just seems different than anything in his book. Any help would be appreciated.

The small line in that particular molecule is just an optional guideline (I think) for the sinking of all of the antler flaps. It plays no part in the collapsing of that particular molecule. In short, just ignore it.

well, I think I'm prettty close, but not there yet. This was the only way that I could fold the two quadrilaterals. Any suggestions to get the right base? I know that the two sides are supposedd to touch so that we can fold the crease that goes between the the front legs and fold the model in half, but folding those dang quadrilaterals spread out the base. I'd be gratefull for any help.

Here's the cp : http://www.langorigami.com/art/mammals/ ... eer_cp.pdf
