My Introduction: PauliusOrigami

Post by PauliusOrigami »

I joined this forum almost a month ago and i would like to introduce myself. My name is Paulius, and I am 18 years old origami artist from Lithuania. In my country origam is not very popular, so there are almost none possibilities to became a professional. In Lithuania there is only one shop where you can buy origami paper, but assortment is too poor.
So paper i make by myself. I have no real "tissue paper" to make real tissue foil, so i take table-napkin (serviette) and glue it with foil. It's much harder to make tissue-foil clear, with no wrinkles. For origami i use baking paper too.
Here is a bit of history : D.
I took first origami book when i was about 14years old. (there were few simple models like flowers, cranes, boats.. nothing special). Then i folded all book and passed away. Because of lack of information about origami, lack of origami books.. and i didn't have an internet then. So that was a big break up to Summer '08. I am also interested in chemistry, and at the end of August while i was looking for information about DNA, i found Origami-DNA diagrams by Thoki Yenn. This moment, when i folded the DNA, i started to call my era of origami. :) Soon it's going to be a full year, when i am with origami. I During this year i made a big progress. Created some model. Learned how to solve and fold even Complex CP's like Brian's Sephiroth, kamiya's Phoenix, Katsuta Kyohei's Spiders, etc.. Also i made "the smallest crane" record in Lithuania, and at the same time with 3 friends "the biggest crane" record. I made one exhibition with first models, and can't wait to make another one. I made a lot's of new more complex models, and i think next exhibition is going to be in winter. :)
I think origami will be my hobby for all my life. Maybe one day i will fold RyuJin. The head i have already done separately. I am the fan of Kamyia, Kyohei, Dr Lang, Komatsu, Serovs, Chan, Joisel, Kawahata, Sirgo, Takashi, Terry, Diaz and Mabona :)
I publish my works on Flickr, there you can see it:

Thank you all for attention : ) It's good to be here in between origami community.

I hope you weren't bored while reading this stuff ;D
And forgive me, my english is not very well ;D I hope you understood what i said :)
See ya!

Paulius

Not all of us have the talent to justify buying the nicer paper. However, I do think that you do have this talent, and it's possible to buy some of this paper online:

www.passionorigami.com sells larger paper in France.

www.origamido.com sells very high quality handmade paper in the US.

www.kimscrane.com has a variety of paper.

http://paperjade.com/

www.sasugabooks.com

Also, you can try garden shops, florist shops, butchers, hardware stores, craft stores, candy stores, giftwrap stores, and possibly local colleges as sources for different types of paper. Sometimes interesting paper is seasonal, such as during Christmas or Easter.

And, you might consider learning to make your own paper....

Good Luck,

Hank Simon

You've done some really good stuff, especially if you've only been folding for a year now. You've mastered some very complex models, and the models are very neatly folded. Congratulations on that.
As to paper, it's always hard. But you seem to have done very well with what you could get. I can't image what your models will look like with high quality paper...
As Hank mentioned, there are several other sites that sell origami paper. To clarify, Passion Origami (http://origami-shop.com/) ships worldwide.
Tissue paper is widely available online, so that might also be an option. The big advantage of buying paper online is that you have so many options. The disadvantage, of course, is that you can't feel the paper before you buy it. Terry's stuff is really good, though, and you can't go too wrong with tissue paper. And you might even be lucky and find non-bleeding tissue paper - then you can make duo paper.

Hi Sara,
try "Stealed_paper". I folded this R. Lang Tarantula using that kind of paper... not bad indeed!
To buy some of this paper follow the forum link:

nice work, paulius! about the paper-problem i would like to say: keep on experimenting with your own paper, 'cause it's a way to get your own style. the experienced hand will do some fine origami even out of a newspaper or the wrap of a chewing gum ...

Hey Paulius
i read your post and gave a look to your works: it is unbelievable that you with only one year of experience, selfmade serviette_foil paper can fold very complex models and many starting just from CP.
Hamlet sayd: to be(lieve) or not to be(lieve): this is the question...
The answer is be(lieve) it is not expensive cost zero

'though these words were not ment for me - just don't worry about your english - just imagine the knowledge of most people in here in your own language ...
the more english words and phrazes you're going to post in here, too, the better you'll become. i'm trying to do the same with all the nonsense i'm writing

For me grammar isn't in the first place. The main thing is that we can understand each other (:

what about paper, i tried everything what i could get, but i really liked that handmade serviete-foil :)

And thanks to everyone for friendliness
