The Convention book is on pre-order at Nicholas Terry's site. The book will be available in the store at the end of August.

For some strange reason I can't find it again but I remember to have read somewhere that they like to have files that can be changed afterwards.

They say that their favorite file is adobe illustrator, at least thats what I read. My stegosaurus didn't make it in (I sent them the ai files, and asked if they could reply and tell me whether they work. They didn't), and it seems to me that there is actually quite a few people that submit.

I received my copy in the mail today!
The book has some great models, but I was suprised by how simple some of them were. Particularly Lang's banded angelfish and Trang Trung Hieu's Lady. I will definitely be folding some of the models during the upcoming week

They never do. I got no confirmation that they had gotten or used my design last year. I found out when the table of contents was posted and someone here on the forum said "congratulations Jared". I then realized that they didn't have my address so I emailed that to them and they again didn't respond, but I did find a copy of the book in my mailbox a few weeks later.

I'm one to talk though, I'm horrible at responding to emails.

And the filetype you send is not what determines whether your submission is included...come on...

Thats true, but as someone mentioned they do like the ability to edit it. I have no idea whether the ai files I sent would open with adobe illustrator, but I also sent a PDF just in case.

There are many great models! Specially, many designers signed on the book for me.

Got rejected yet again

Hey, I got rejected too

First, hello everyone.

For anyone whose design did not make the final cut:

Though you may have not gotten into this edition of Tanteidan, Groups still want your designs. Tanteidan is the most prestigious publication, but other societies are desperate for material and diagrams.

I know that the BOS (British Origami Society) are actively looking for submissions, and I'm sure OUSA (USA), AEP (Spain) and other societies that publish magazines would be delighted if you were to allow them to publish your designs.

Perhaps others know about Italy, Germany and other societies that are similarly diagram, and article, hungry?

I don't think you have to be a member in order to submit material.

In the past year or so, some famous names have published diagrams in BOS, such as Quentin Trollip, Roman Diaz, Artur Biernacki... you'd be in esteemed company!

I hope you might consider these alternatives.

I should declare an interest - I am a BOS member, and so would benefit directly, from being able to attempt folding them, should your models be published in their magazine.

simians are not my favorite subject matter, but i have to say, the folders really instilled a lot of whimsy and expression. bravo.

maybe i'll try to go next year.

editted to add: *sigh*, i do believe i spy folders working with large japanese foil. why oh why will no one sell this? the bottom line is that modern origami is moving towards models that require thin, strong paper, and japanese foil is the best that one can buy. yes, i like the stuff from passionorigami, but everyone knows it's still a little thicker than japanese foil.

Japanese foil is thin and malleable, but it is certainly not strong. That is my only complaint, but I deal with it because it is cheap, I use it only for test-folding, and I have tape

Still I have a hunch Tanteidan goes for the 'established names' first. Not to show a huge ego, but my diagrams are clear enough in pfd to be published and altered to their needs... I see a lot of the same names for years and years in a row... and some designs were kinda weird. I hope I don't offend anyone, but last year's dolphin cut-out thing was strange. So is this year's Onitsuka Tiger sneaker and the fish with the sunglasses...

but maybe I am missing stuff and I am extremely frustrated...

Does anyone understand the diagrams of the Ceberus where you unwrap and refold the front paws??? I don't get the bended valleyfold. I kinda see what Kamiya means but the diagram is not clear to me. It is different from his Dragon claws in his book...

It's possible that they narrow down the choices of good diagrams from unknown people, and pick the ones that they are going to include randomly? Maybe you were just really unlucky to not get picked. At any rate, I was really lucky to get picked.

On another note, I still have not received my copy of the convention book

Ps. The Onitsuka sneaker was supposed to be the Onitsuka Tiger, but Sipho Mabona ran out of time to diagram it. it's really a shame, cause I wanted to fold that tiger really really bad. REALLY REALLY BAD!
