I apologise for a late response, due to abundant of tests and exams attacking me at my school. Anyway, I finished folding the phoenix (not the wings, but the other parts) 2 times in total, and they ripped desperately when I started folding a wing. I finally unfolded the papers and crumpled them and threw them away into the bin! (Don't worry, the paper I used was an A4 copy paper, and I'm not that kind of crazy, that's just an overstatement.)

As a result, I do only have my wing trial.
And here the result is:

The side

And the back

I am really sorry that I cannot make a phoenix with this kind of wing on it. But I think you could fold them on your paper, for sure.
Feel free and do not hesitate to ask me about this. Happy folding!

Nice! the feathers need a little narrowing, though.

Thanks! And yeah, they do need narrowing; unfortunately, this cannot be remedied, as they are currently in a box on its way to Massachucets... ...Hope it doesn't get crushed

Thanks to a lot of helpful posts in this thread, I was able to fold this Phoenix. This one is about my 5th attempt and now keeps my Ancient Dragon company at my office.

I did something a little different and made a second row of "feathers" from the flaps in the middle of the wings. The feathers overall are maybe a little bulky this way, but I like the effect so they're staying that way, at least on this one. :P

The paper is a 2.5' square of thai metallic paper.

didn't there use to be a sticky with all the phoenix help linked in it before the board was restructured?

the mods should re-sticky that.
