I get a lot of positive feedback from non-folders, which is nice. My friends all know how much origami means to me, and how far I want to take it though, so they tend not to mock me and my odd "hobby".

Often I hear something to the effect of "That's amazing! I Could never do that!.

I don't want people to think that. I would rather they said "That's amazing! How do I do that?". I'm not folding to show off at all. I fold for pleasure, and I hope some of my enthusiasm rubs off on others. A few people I know are keen to have a go, and I'm really glad for that.

Well, Jared and I just had a very interesting conversation with someone who apparently 'accidently' added themselves to the chat group. They started a bit of a flame war with us, by saying that origami is 'a hobby is for old people who have nothing better to do with there time'. That was his opinion, and apparently his passion is playing multiplayer online shooter games. Which is more productive?hehehe

i get all kinds of positive feed back from non folder. like you should become a profesianal, or you should design you own. but my favorite is " i bet i can fold that" about two weeks later they say "f#%* it is harder than it looks."

^^ most of my responses are positive (thankfully)

Most funny reaction i've had so far, is from dad. When at home he says "stop wasting your time", "do something more productive" etc etc.

But when a vistor comes by and sees what i have folded, he starts saying "oh yea, you should let your children learn origami too, it makes them more patient..."

since i travel by bus to my Faculty of Law and the ride is about 1 hour long i usually bring a folder filled with colored papers and make origami.
Non folders reaction is like :
How did you make that and i say from paper
or where did you learn this i mostly say from books because when i say from youtube or some other site on the net they suddenly lose interest(dunno why)
i mostly make modular and action origami and a combination of those 2
when i go to classes i usualy tend to fold something but i usually fold for my own pleasure not to showoff
once when i made the so called magic rose cube all the guys were like you gotta teach me that(no need for explanation)
the comments i get are mostly positive although some of them say you are in the wrong faculty and also the famous " You don't have anything better to do"
and when i travel by train people usually are really interested in what i am doing so i make them something that they can tell stories about a boy who makes origami on a train(and on the bus too  )

Reminds me on the people who ask me where I bought this precreased paper when I folded a grid before starting to fold (happens mostly in the subway). When I tell them that I precreased it myself they do not believe me because they think it is impossible to fold that exact.

Folding in a train?
Usually don't have such a privilege, I'm always standing up due to the train being jam-packed!

That's a large part of my received responses as well...disbelief that my folding is that exact, or that the model could have been created without cutting. Many a model has been unfolded to prove my skill!

preferably, I try avoiding folding in the public, as I note glares of certain people who believe I'm seeking attention.I hate that, but even so I do so during class besides that at home.My classmates never react as negatively as how the public would, they'd just respond with a "wow can u teach me that??" or "can i keep it" from the girls or "dude, awesome.teach me","cool","dood what ya doin?" from the guys. But anyways their sudden interest for origami suddenly vanishes during the first 20 steps ( the majority asks for instruction of toshizaru kawasaki's rose) as they see it's often complex. The couples would go either "<sighh> he never folds these for me" or " This stuff is too easy to be made for you,I'll buy u a real one"

odd.

I get asked how I make those cuts.... ....Yup you saw what I just wrote: Cuts. Yup. Been asked 4 times.

I politely tell them that they are creases, and if they were cuts, the paper would just be tiny little pieces of paper. I fold sometimes at lunch at my high-school, and most people know me as an origami guy. Some of my friends think that it's kinda funky, but really cool, some think that it's just flat out cool, and some think that it's awesome.

I don't fold outside of my house or school, though, because I would hate to have to explain what i'm folding, how hard it is, how I learned it, what it's called, who designed it (or if it was designed by me), why I do origami, how I learned it, why I do it, etc. over and over and over again...

Eurgh, *shivers* I know that feeling. Whenever someone is invited over they notice the origami scattered around the place. Then I have to do the whole lecture about why, how, what it is all about, blahblahblah....
