Need help with getting this effect using kawasaki rose

Post by Fc1032 »

Hello everyone!

Its a longgggg holiday for me, so naturally, i've origami-ing alot!

While I was on flickr posting my pics up, I stumbled on this folder who has made VERY nice Kawasaki roses. Here's the one i think looks the best.

Image

I find the shape completely different to the original Kawasaki's, its very long and narrow. The center is just curled paper.

I was hoping someone can point in the right direction on how i can get Kawasaki's to be this narrow.

Here's another pic to help with the reverse engineering =)

Hm. Now that I look at it again (and up close), it looks like the curled up paper in the middle is thinner than the rest of the rose. Just a thought.

the center curled paper is the same paper i think. But since it is not folded its just the one sheet of paper, where as the petals are folded making them thicker. Not sure...

I managed to get the rose it self to look slightly thinner, but it looks a bit like a pyramid

i'll try to post a pic later

Well as mentioned, i managed to get the narrower look... But it's protruding corners make it look like a pyramid.

Here's a few pics of how its gone >>

If i somehow manage to round off the corners a bit, i think im close to the real thing =)

Any suggestions on how i could round the corners off? I don't want to resort to forcing it round :P

it's not entirely clear whether or not you've already said this, but i think the rose pictured is made of two pieces. the center piece looks to my eye to be a very well shaped curled kawasaki rosebud, inserted into what you have reverse engineered.

Hello everyone!!

I've got another few roses done

I think it looks close, but I'm absolutely sure its not the same as the "the gift of gifts" ones.

Here are a few shots of the ones the completed ones. I ended up forcing the corners downward and hiding it underneath the rose.

Do you think they are close?

from time to time i use to fold kawasaki-roses from squares i cut of from a A4 or A5 sheet of paper and if you cut a square from the rest of the paper you're normaly throw away and fold two roses, the smaler one fits well in the top of the bigger one;)
then you've got the "douple-kawasaki-rose-effekt":)

@ Murkel: yes, spare cut paper is always good for making smaller roses to fit in!!

@PauliusOrigami: No this wasnt from a diagram. I just changed the kawaski rose a bit. I was trying to get the same effect as the first rose pic i posted (i.e a more narrow and slim kawasaki rose)

^^ I'm happy that people have taken notice of this rose

And many have asked how to make them. So since i believe that origami is an art that should be shared

I made a simple diagram thing to share!

Here is the diagram! You will have to copy and paste it... for some reason it wont hyperlink.

If there is a problem let me know =)

Actually, upon closer inspection of the flickr page of the "gift of gifts" link, i believe the inner part of the rose is not just a circular rolled paper as shown in Fc1032's diagram, but actually the tubular variation of kawasaki's rose:

Anyone else agree?

@legendver2:

Yes I agree with you, bethnor has brought this up too.

However, I had difficulties getting the proportions right and I thought that made the inner petals look to dense.

Curled paper was much easier =P
