Here's my attempt:

It boils down to experience. You need to fold more models from diagrams, and in a conscious way - not just moving from one step to the next in cookbook fashion, but being aware of how each step contributes to a general overall technique for detailing. Many models utilise similar detailing techniques, for instance, using a double rabbit ear for hind limbs, or a split to obtain claws, and so on. The more such techniques you have in your toolbox, the easier it is to get the details you want.hobbestheprince wrote:I know that it's up to us to come up with the features, but I just meant the techniques for the flaps themselves. What I'm trying to say, is that some people (like myself) will fold the dwarf, and see these 3 or 4 flaps, and think that you just twist one flap and get a nose, lower one and get a mouth ... etc. Meanwhile everyone on this forum knows how to get a beard, and other features.
