Hey...
Having trouble with the sinks around step 85...
Which layers cannot be opened?
Can you just open the sheet almost completely, make the sinks, and close it back up?
Are the "circled layers" the pleats, or what?
Please reply.

its basically an open sink, but do not undo any of the pleats.

I know its just an open sink, have folded the dragon before, with GREAT difficulty.
Is there a certain way to get these sinks in without opening the pleats?

no. there's no secret to it. you just have to work the paper and be patient.

this step is why i do not recommend tissue foil for the inexperienced. the precreasing is almost worthless and it is difficult to get traction on the tissue foil to separate the layers to start the open sink.

but ive folded the dragon around 15 times and had hardly any difficulty and i used tissue foil on all of them. i was only an intermediate folder when i folded my first few though.

try it with kami. anything you have to do with tissue foil is 10x easier with kami. the main difference is that kami is too thick and too weak.

I hear double tissue is decent for the Ancient Dragon...you know, aside from the propensity for the edges to split when you aren't careful Also, you might try checking out the forum for Ancient Dragon interpretations on Kamiya's site...the folders usually list what they used. Here is a link.

I folded my first dragon from 10" Japanese. The result was (albiet messy) the best dragon I have created. Then I tried it with giftwrap but things went horribly wrong...

i got stuck on step 24, te little thingy on the side keeps disapearing, someone pls help meeeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on step 24, locate the first crease in and fold it straight up. do not flatten. Next, open squash. 24 is done!

Kami is useful, but not the best for big projects.

And for all of you who still can't do step 85, a few pages back explains everything, just read the earlier posts, and questions will be answered. I've been seeing the same question come up a million times.

joshuaorigami, not to make you feel bad, there are no pleats where 85 takes place, only a flap that gets in the way of 2 of the open sinks, and you are correct, do not open them. I hope this helps.

So...
according to what you say, I am able to open pretty much the entire model, except for the pleats, and sink the parts in?
What would happen if you opened the pleats?
Is the result catastrophic?
'Cos I have made a dragon that turned out fine by opening the pleats, making the mountain creases, closing the pleats back, THEN making the sink. O_o

I wouldnt waste my time opening up the model and getting the creases just right. i just folded the flap over (back and forth a few times) then just worked the paper to sink it. This is only the belly of the dragon.... Nobody will notice how untidy it is, and most of the time (in pictures) it doesnt even show. What makes that step tricky is that its more work to open up the model and sink, than it is to just sink without opening.

Did you push it in a certain way that opened the flap?
