I object, foil is easily reversable when it comes to the direction of the crease. Your post kind of angered me when I read it
, because of your push downs on foil.
I hand make my foil, and that's probaply why it can be reverse creased, easily doing many manuvered sinks.
Who ever brought up the point on the smallest Ancient dragon being of a sport, I agree. The Ancient dragon isn't to be taken as a sport, It's (acording to Satoshi himself), a "learning experience." The smaller you make the paper, the more it doesn't look like a decent dragon.
Although I have seen some preety good miniature dragons on this post, mainly the red one in someone's hand (sorry, I can't see past this page on the scroll
) about the size of their thumb. That one looks very decent.
But to make a very observable dragon, that many people will admire, you need to go larger, and take your time, it looks way cooler if you do so. I've done this dragon 9 times, one of which was 30x30, I wouldn't go under 40-45cm, going less than that is a dare that doesn't have a nice outcome.

rollercoaster--did you read the post or any of the posts leading up to it? no matter how "easy" you think it is to reverse a crease with tissue foil, it will be easier with regular kami.
it is also not a granted that someone can make tissue foil as well as you can. are you using regular tissue paper, or are you using foil to back something else? robert lang himself describes the difficulty in reversing a crease with regular tissue foil in origami insects and their kin. if you disagree, feel free to take it up with him!!!

Actually yes, I am using foil to back the paper, ost of the time I double it, t-f-t. It could also be my experience in using the foil so much, I've learned how to easily reverse crease a crease on foil. There are many foils that are ifficult to reverse crease, homemade foil, however, has a property that works just as good as kami. If you don't believe me now, try making yourself some and compare the two. It'll seem thick at first, but is very thin and flexible.

Just wondering...
For a large dragon...
Is origamido an overkill for the dragon?
Is Tant a viable option?
Where do i buy "mulberry"?

Origamido= Perfect paper for all complex models, Kamiya himself uses it all the time. No way overkill, if you've got the folding skill to use it
Tant= It's about as thick as printer paper. Not reaaaally that great for a dragon. You could try a massive sheet (110 by 80cm) but don't expect any miracles.
As for the mulberry, depends where you live. Most good online art shops should sell it
Hope this helps

rollercoaster, it seems to me you're not even reading your own posts.RollerCoasterBug wrote: It could also be my experience in using the foil so much, I've learned how to easily reverse crease a crease on foil.
i have used tissue foil before and there is NO WAY it is as easy to reverse as kami.
again:
to make tissue foil, you first must have a large, open, well-aerated space. not everyone has this. certainly, there are those who use glue, which alleviates this problem. but the ratio of glue:water is not exact, and there will be some trial/error involved.
you must also have a means to cut a large square. not everyone has this. further, to make a larger square, you have to cut four individual squares to combine them. not a big deal, but again, more work.
after you make the foil, you have to wait until the next day before you use it. again, some people get away with using a blow dryer but not everyone does this.
if you make a mistake mid-way through the model, all this work is now ruined! and you have to wait another day before you can try again (assuming you don't wish to blow dry or make tissue foil en masse like anne has). and given that this thread is > 40 pages, some people are not maesters of origami like you and occasionally mess this model up!
i folded for years and i avoided taping squares together as nolan suggested in his book--dunno why. tried it, and you can do it in less than 5 minutes. if you mess up, you can scrap it, and try again. if you mess up again, it's no big deal, scrap it and make another sheet. you can try as many times as you like in one day (limited only by how many squares you have), no problem.
there is no comparison and stop pretending like there is. think before you get "mad" for people speaking about the well known properties of tissue foil.

ive just folded the dragon again from origamido paper. the finished result feel like just ordinary tissue paper though. but it holds together great! it dosent get thick at all and it didnt rip even the tinyest bit!

the paper is really thin and would probably rip with mc or wet finish, but it holds together well.
