Thank you. I didn't think about stretching the paperorigamimasterjared wrote:You stretched it. Do not move the paper when it's wet. Brush it with MC and wait for it to dry. But NEVER pick up the paper once you've coated it in MC.

Methyl Cellulose - "Yes! Glue"!
I had a hard time finding Methyl Cellulose glue. However, after doing some research, I found that "Yes!" glue is made primarily of Methyl Cellulose. Michael's sells it. So in the US is shouldn't be hard to find! Hallelujah!
Here's my source saying "Yes!" glue is primarly Methyl Cellulose:

i just made my first sheet of double tissue but i found it a little hard to cut with a knife.
also one of the squares is 10.5 cm. what would be a good model to fold with that square?

my flickr tissue foil is for noobs! mc FTW!!!!
Found methylcellulose
Found mc from a supplier!
but only available in either 10 kilograms, or 250 grams.
The price for 250 grams was 2000 Norwegian kroner!
(It's about 200 Euros, or about 330 US dollars for american folders). So, its either finding someone that wants to buy mc also, or find a cheaper alternative....
pretty decent folder, beginner designer from Norway.
Adam: oh, hmm. Here in Norway I only know of the pharmacies that sell chemicals. I have seen that wallpaper-paste is also recommended, but its difficult to find out what actually is in the paste, they only say its non-toxic, non-environmental-damaging starch-based.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Hollander's online also sells MC - in various size packages (8, 16, and 32 ounces...$21.95 for 16 ounces). They offer shipping discount for orders over $100 (for an order of about $100 the shipping is free). I have ordered from them in the past - they have nice paper and the shipping rebate for orders over $100 is great, however, I wish they would post the gsm for their papers.
The PaperSource is actually a bit expensive. I bought 4 ounces of dry mc six years ago (locally in U.S.) for $4.25 (by the way, it is still usable...this stuff must last forever!). PaperSource website price says $2.75 - but does not specify the amount. I called them they said it was a 16 ounce jar! That was too good to be true; they then told me that the jar contains enough dry mc powder to make about 16 ounces of prepared mc. My 4 ounces of dry mc is enough to make more than ten times that amount of prepared mc.
Thanks for the other sources, Adam and SonOfHobs! I will check Michael's for the YES paste!

MC
I did my first MC treatment just a few days ago and was fairly pleased with the result. However, I was having a very hard time removing the paper from the glass that it was glued to. It ripped and several spots and was overall a bit frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions for removing the paper from the glass?

I think that was because of the gar, not the glue.Trouble wrote:i kept my wallpaper glue in a gar in after 3 weeks OMG it smelled like horriale
keep the mc solution in the fridge - it could go a little mouldy but there should be no smell
when you mix your solution - sterilise your container(s), including lid and tool, first
you can sterilise by either:
1) putting containing in boiling water for about 3 minutes, then dry in an oven
2) put water in container, put in microwave to heat up (be very careful though - water can hit boiling temperature in the microwave without looking like it's boiling!) and only do this if the container/lid/tool is microwave-safe
it's a little like making jam

and the other note for removing mc'ed paper from a surface....
first, make sure that when you have applied the MC, leave a little corner where you slip in a small piece of plastic or wood under the paper that sticks out of the edge
this will create a pocket where you can lift the paper from
once dried, take the little bit of plastic/wood out
you can try lifting the paper gently from the glass - if it doesn't work, find a sharp small blade and gently ease it into the lifted corner and gently slide it down the edge of the paper....this should help lift the paper
(in case you have missed it, the keyword is 'gentle'
