With great sorrow I have received the unfortunate news that Eric Joisel has swapped his time on earth for the great unknown.

May you rest in peace fellow folder, your time on this tiny planet will not be forgotten.

Please think about this Great Little Folder from the Paris Suburb and pay your respects by exploring his web site, recently revised by Jamie Kelley.

This is terrible news. I didn't know that he was struggling with lung cancer. Both he and his art creations will be missed. So sad to see a great origamist pass away...

Such an absolute shock to hear of Eric's passing !
May I extend my sincere condolences to his family & friends.
Eric Joisel will , of course, live on through his gift of origami models of unparalleled realism & artistry .
I will always remember his immense skill, honesty & delightful wry sense of humor .
I can never forget his words, expressing that origami should be a creative endeavor, rather than a cookie cutter, assembly line enterprise .
We were very fortunate to have had him, for far too short a time.

May I wish success to all who cope with the mountains & valleys of Life,
with all its peaks & depths, as well as Origami .

He is a giant among men who walked the earth in humor and humility even as he filled us with awe and delight.

His work epitomizes the difference between kid's craft and the realm of art when it comes to origami.

One of Origami's greatest artists

Post by DeeBee »

His art was original and influenced the world of origami. He was famous but approachable. I was amazed that he would talk to me or any other folder. He loved origami and he loved to share. His work will live on through our community of folders but I will certainly miss the man.
