Video tutorials for my designs!

Post by joshuaorigami »

Hi everyone!

Recently, i haven't been in the mood for diagramming and i thought i'd give video tutorials a shot. Please excuse the bad video-ing, it's my first time.

So here's the video for my penguin on an iceberg. Please post photo's if you fold it! I'd be very grateful if you do!
PS. I sound very weird in the video's so i'd rather not talk in future!

You probably could have just changed the name of your other thread, rather than starting a new one.

I do like that model, though. It might have been a better idea to have folded the larger penguin for the video, though, especially since the camera doesn't focus well when zoomed in.

Your voice sounds similar to my little brother's voice, but it's very hard to hear you. If it's possible to record the voice-over separately, it would certainly improve the clarity when folding something with crinkly paper. ;-)

Also, seeing that a huge amount of paper is "wasted", you could try to use the opposite corner to fold the head of a killer whale, so that it looks like it's coming out of the water...

However, in all honesty, for this model, a video seems like overkill. It's not easy to hear you, and it's hard to see the model clearly, so diagrams would have been better, I think.
From what I can tell, you're too close to the camera. It's focused behind the model (and your hands), and it can't focus any closer. It's a common problem with most cameras (still and video).
If your camera has a macro/close-up setting, you should use it.
Also, talking and handling noisy paper at the same time isn't a good idea. ;-)

Finally, I would suggest that your voice sounds weird for a couple of reasons; firstly, you're probably not used to hearing your own voice, which is always strange, but mostly, you sound more nervous than anything. If you continue to make videos and talk, your confidence should grow and your voice will sound better.
It's a good first try, though, so please don't be discouraged by my comments, I mean them to be constructive.

Thanx for the comment!

The paper sounded alot louder in the video than in real life.
I'll try another video with kami next.

And i'll take all of your criticism on board for my next vid.
Thanks! :D

I don't have much experience with video cameras, and I don't know the exact design of the one you're using, but I imagine that the microphone is pointing forwards, and with the paper being closer to the camera, the noise from the paper is picked up a lot more than your voice, which is behind the camera and further away.
Which is why it would be better if you could record your voice separately.
And if you really don't want to speak next time, you could always add captions/subtitles instead. :-)

It is a nice model, though. I think something larger than this one, but smaller than your other version would be good. With the penguin and iceberg in better proportion to each other.
I'll definitely have to try it sometime.

I'm not quite sure how to record my voice seperatly, but for next time i'll just speak louder.

If you do fold it, i'd be very grateful! And try to post pics if you could. :D

PS> The other penguin at the end of the vid has a completely different sequence to the one shown. I've made a tutorial for both of them and my simple cat too.
