Tape

Post by ckelly6 »

Im home for the holiday and thought id take advantage of all the down time to fold something huge. I was going to attach 4 squares of about 19" tracing paper but I dont know what tape to use or what is best. Anyone have any experience with different tapes for taping paper together?

I'm surprised no one has responded to this. I'm guessing it's because tape would make it difficult to fold no matter what kind you use (unless you want to make a really big simple model). I don't have any experience personally, so I can't help you. Maybe masking tape since it's made out of paper??

I'd think that any model made from a 38" x 38" piece of tracing paper would be really floppy for even the most complex models.

You may want to try MC'ing two 2x2 layers togther with the layers offset so that the top layer and bottom layer hold each other together. You would lose a little size because you'd have to trim around the edges, but it would be thicker and no tape!

Dont know if MC work well on tracing paper though.

Being underprivileged in good paper, I have tried several methods to overcome this disadvantage and it just so turns out that one of those methods included joining separate sheets of paper together to form one large, single sheet. Usually with this method, I try connecting two larger sheets of paper by making use of one, very long, thin strip of paper. This long, strip of paper would act as tape, connecting the separate sheets of paper together by using a suitable glue as the adhesive. I usually make the strip of paper as thin as possible, such that it does not interfere with the creases of my models. Simply get two separate sheets of paper, join them together then tape them at the connecting edges using your long, strip of paper. For the long, strip of paper, I recommend that you use wrapping paper, simply because of its length and thinness. Although wrapping paper is a terrible material to be folded alone, it does make a good tape for joining two separate sheets of paper together.

Only disadvantage I see to the method above would be the colour difference but wrapping paper can easily be dyed, depending on which kind you have.
