Mission to find the right paper

Hey,

I’ve not been on here for a while so I wanted to say hello as well as ask a question as my googling has failed! I’ve been working on little projects making lots of flowers in complimentary colours and I recently bought this paper http://www.origami-shop.com/en/origami- ... 7-620.html
I love the quality of it but the randomness of the colours isn’t ideal for this project, does any one know of any paper that is of similar quality but restricted colour spectrums? The tant packs the origami shop would be ideal but I think they are different paper and I’m looking for quality one sided colour paper but in similar hues.

i'm not sure exactly what your concern is. why don't you just not use the colors you don't want?

Basically there aren't enough complimentary colours within a single spectrum. I was wondering if anyone knew of packs that come with complimentary colours fo instance all in the red spectrum like those tant packs. It is a long shot of course as I've already looked around quite a lot.

I think someone said they aren't all perfectly square which is annoying but I wonder if the paper is relatively decent quality.

there appears to be fewer shades in that pack than the one you purchased. you can see a "preview" of the contents on paperjade.

it might help to know what exactly, it is you're trying to do.

that pack probably has amongst the most variety of shades of any kami variety pack, i'm afraid.

is there a reason you don't want to use tant (which, in all honesty, does not offer THAT many more shades than that variety pack... perhaps 3-4 more, on average)?

your last bet otherwise is to buy up individual shades in a spectrum from paperjade and kimscrane. there will be some variation as to the quality of the papers if you go this route, which may get expensive.

dr. lang had a good explanation for this, but essentially, there is some shifting in the fibers with these machine cut squares, due to humidity and whatnot, that causes them to be slightly off by the time they end up in your hands. i'm too lazy, but he discusses it on his website.

I am making flower designs and gluing them over led fairy lights (I'll post a picture later). I'm hoping to make a few more sets this year for people. I've done one or two using my pack but I’m finding it hard to match complimentary shades now having used up a lot of the subtle shades between orange and red and pinks-purple-blue. The pack I have has lots of colours that wont work for this particular project but I’m sure I can do other things with this paper, there is still a lot of it and it really is lovely to work with

The tant is brilliant I got some for Christmas but it is way too thick to have the effect I'm going for which uses the white as the front so that the colours glow through the paper when the light is turned on.

The 1000 crane set looks like it has a good set of colours for what I'm doing (it is the gradual colour change that looks great) and is already the 3" size I'm working at but I just don't know if the paper is reasonable quality I've tried really cheap paper and the colour cracks with these flowers and I’m a tiny bit of a perfectionist.

Edit: Turns out they wont ship to me in the UK from the US so unless I find a closer supplier it is back to searching again.

you might have mentioned that you were doing this project in 75 mm instead of 150 mm, as that gives you a lot more leeway.

paperjade sells the product you are interested in from amazon. they're pricey, as they ship for free in the US. the products are here.

you can also buy individual shades from kimscrane. they are much less expensive, but in turn get back by charging what can be a relatively high shipping price (anything below $100 is $10. i.e., even though a pack is only ~ $1.50, you essentially are paying $11.50 for it, therefore it behooves you to "buy as much as possible" per order). the listing is here.

both will ship to the UK, it appears.

Ooo that is a slightly different version I hadn't spotted that pack thanks! I might even be able to find that kit sold in the UK.

Problem here: I hope to fold the Black Forest Cuckoo clock by Robert Lang, which asks for 1 x 10 paper, specifically 16 x 160 cm (8 x 80 in) or larger. How do I obtain a good-quality paper that's this size?
By the way, has anyone here attempted this daunting, 216-step design before?

Nicolas Terry sells rolls of foil paper that are just perfect for this model:

For a first try I'd really recommend you to stick with the recommended size of 16x160cm that's about the best size you can fold it with without getting too small or too big.

I've folded the clock several times now from various sizes.
