The Unryu I've tried is very thin and full of long fibers. It's listed as 25gsm. Some of the fibers are quite woody, which can make it tricky to fold cleanly if the fold crosses one of them. I thought it was too thin and soft to fold by itself, so I sized it with MC and it worked out ok. I dry folded it, not knowing if that was right or wrong. I suspect it would be hard to wet fold since it's so thin. What I have is probably unryu tissue, as I see it comes in "cover weight" as well. Perhaps that's what Hank is referring to.

I saw that you have some very well folded insects, are you wet folding from start or just finishing ?

yet unryu tissue (25gsm), It's my first Unryu fold, it's not available in my country so I had to order it abroad, so far I am quite satisfied... with next folding I'll try coating with MC before folding

I found one very nice folded scorpion, folded from 15" square 25gms unryu, supposed to be wet folded

Not "Hack Option" ... "Hack opinion" --- I don't know what I'm talking about... and I'm so clueless this time, that I felt the need to warn you... Sometimes, I'm only half clueless... and I usually sound more confident than when I'm totally knowledgeable :-)

You should hear when I talk about Nuclear Physics !

hi everyone. I have been using wall paper paste for sizing 25gsm unryu and find the paper still soft. I also tried spray starch with the same result. any ideas? I cannot tell if I'm doing it correctly, I was hoping for very crisp springy paper for kamiyas ancient dragon.

You can try making a thicker solution (adding more powder). If that doesn't help, you could try a different kind of paper. Two layers of tissue paper work fine.

Or double unryu. It gets a little thicker but can make the sheet more sturdy.

okay thanks I'll try a thicker solution. I think two sheets glued together might get too thick for this model. double tissue is good but rather plain. any other paper suggestions?

OK after hearing so many stories about MC paper, I have to try out myself. I went to Blick art store near my house and got some MC, Tissue papers, rollers, smooth surface plastic sheet, and a brush. I'm ready to make some MC PAPER!!! Wish me luck!

Also, for folk that live near a Blick art store, I found this. Hopefully it is the right thing.. Can someone confirm? Oh and do you just mix this powder with water?? XD

Just got some MC from the Chemistry store. I tried to prepare it by adding three teaspoons of powder, pouring in a cup of hot water then stirring, then pouring another cup of cold water in.
It didn't work! It all settled on the bottom of my container, and after waiting overnight I had an icky gel on the bottom and essentially liquid on the top. How do I get it to dissolve right? I
What I noticed was that when I added the powder it was not gel-like at all, just like if you mixed flour or something with water. Is it supposed to be like that at first?
It's weird because I did it before with some methylcellulose from Paper source and followed the instructions on the jar, and it worked that time... here I've done exactly the same thing and it doesn't work this time!

I figures out putting it in a bottle and shaking instead if stirring works best

I don't have a big sheet of glass, so I was wondering if any other surfaces could be used for
MC-ing.
(Maybe aluminum foil?)

I wouldn't bet on aluminum foil working...
