Project OriCrafter

Post by DreamForger »

Hello friends-origamists! ;) We present you our OriCrafter project.
It is developed by a group of students-programmers-origamists.
In short, OriCrafter consists of Origami Contructor, Diagram Editor and other interesting applications.
We will take part in Imagine Cup WorldWide Finals in New York.
Imagine Cup people choice awards has started recently and if you are interested in fate of our project then vote for us at http://imaginecup.com/worldwide-finals/ ... spx?r=6282
More about us http://oricrafter.com, http://oricrafter.wordpress.com
The project is still in process of developing and testing, so now you can check functionality only from video. We'll add more video later on our site http://oricrafter.com or http://youtube.com/user/oricrafter
However if you have cell phone under Windows Phone 7 you can download OriCrafter (viewer of 3D diagram) from Zune MarketPlace.

Now it looks like this:

The Construtor.
It allows you to work with a virtual paper, as we do with a real paper.
* It allows you to create and save a three-dimensional digital model of origami.
* The process of folding is animated
* The history of actions is saved. It is available for user to cancel wrong steps.
* It supports (printable) textures for models and fold lines.
* Now supporting basic folds and Outside\Inside reverse folds.

The Diagrammer.
The Diagrammer or the diagram editor. It automates the process of creating diagrams of origami.
* Automatic diagram generation for the digital description, received from the Construtor.
* The flexible adjustment of the diagrams such as a commentary to your steps, the location and symbolic representation
* Diagrams are three-dimensional. None step would be complicated for you.
* The possibility to export in different formats

Augmented Reality
Sometimes, folding a model we can face an action, which we can not understand. We offer the unprecedented solution – the augmented reality technologies. Using a virtual model, folded in the Constructor, the sheets with barcodes and hints are generated. If a user wants to print barcodes he will need a simplest printer and switched on web-camera.
Folding a model in front of the web-camera, a user can see the image of the sheet with superimposed additional information on the screen. Such information includes the crease lines, the arrows on direction of creases, and other tips. These tips satisfy standard origami conventions and will be helpful for novices/beginners.

Mobile Application
It allows you to download 3d diagram on your mobile device.

If you are interested in our idea you can help us in 3 ways:
1) Vote for OriCrafter at http://imaginecup.com/worldwide-finals/ ... spx?r=6282
2) Give us feedback: questions, critic, wishes.
3) We are looking for simple models (close to pureland). If you have any - please contact us team@oricrafter.com

Hey I think this is a good idea. Keep up the great work. Unfortunately, I don't have a Windows 7 phone to try it out, so I can't give any feedback. But it seems to be very interesting, especially for beginners or small kids (teaching)
