Chesslo, what do you mean you need a membership?
You just need to go to the irc.rizon.net server and locate the channel #origami
The quickest way to accomplish this is to go to http://www.rizon.net/index.php?do=chat and input that you want to go to channel #origami
There are various IRC clients with much better interfaces. I use a Mac, and Colloquy is the best IRC client for Mac.
You don't need any membership. You could join #chesslo if you wanted. Probably wouldn't be anyone for you to talk to there though.

It seems the address changed to http://www.rizon.net/index.php?do=chat. Here you just choose a username and the channel origami. You don't need any registration.
I'll change the links in the previous posts.

Re: Origami Chat
I think we should create a pool, let everyone vote.
Then we´ll see which option is most popular, and everyone could gather there!
Someone who knows how to create such a pool should do it. For great justice!

Re: Origami Chat
I'd love to find a live-chat to participate in.
If it isn't built into the forums here, there are plenty of free polling tools on the net (such as http://pollcode.com/) and the free level of PollDaddy should be enough for the number of responses this kind of poll would generate. What are the options we are choosing between?

Re: Origami Chat
I much prefer the Rizon IRC chat since I'm on IRC anyway much of the time. I'm usually logged in to the chat but may not be at my computer to reply.

Re: Origami Chat
After a couple of years away I'm now back to regularly idling in #Origami on Rizon.net
If you drop by there you're likely to find me logged in, but I can't guarantee that I'll actually be at my computer though.
