I've always struggled with the reference points on that one.

I've always felt that way about Andrew Jackson. The man was as boss as a drum.

From two pieces of American letter paper, but it can be made just as easily from A4.

In honor of the first international exhibition on origami tessellations, July 29th through August 6th at the Jardim Botânico in Brasília, Brasil.

Instructions can be had:

and the files with the map projections can be had:

Spring into Action by Jeff Beynon from a rectangle of black copy paper

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/AtClePfPthI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed>

Definitely one of the coolest action models in existance. I probably won't fold it again so soon though because the precreasing is long and tedious and the collapsing process can drive you nuts.

YouTube seems to have messed up my audio because it is out of synch now, I left it in nevertheless because I think this models makes a really cool sound as well :-)
So long and keep folding ^_^

I agree that it's a neat model, I would have to say that it's a close second to Jeremy Shafer's ISO flasher folded from a heavy paper like Wyndstone Marble then dunked in water. The self-collapse action is just creepy.

I also don't think the precreasing is so bad with the spring into action model. With paper that isn't overly thick, I can usually get away with folding the paper over and creasing two sets of diagonals at a time and then reversing half of them. With enough practice, it's a really easy model.

Where do you get your black copy paper?

edited to fix URL... what's wrong with HTML, anyway? I'm getting too old to learn a special formatting syntax for every message board that exists.

I've made every flasher in Jeremy's book! My cousin loves them so maybe I should make him the 'Spring into action' thingy. Where did you get the diagram?

I forgot to mention, if you are having too much trouble collapsing it, you can try the simplified version that I found by accident. Just don't do the 12 horizontal divisions, just do 6 and you will still get a very nice model with that spring quality.

You can see what I mean here: Original version with 12 divisions to make it more rounded: Image

And another one with only 6 divisions, less rounded but a lot easier to collapse and still pretty nice:

I guess you could do the simpler spiral and a prequal so you know how to do it next time...
P.S.(That tree frog is too cool.)
