Ok, the first ten days of the challenge have passed. As you've noticed this is more of a conceptual than a technical challenge. So planning is the first and maybe the most important step. Once you have your concept ready, fold away! But don't take too much time planning or the month, and the challenge, will be over before you know it .
How will you generate consciousness about a world issue through an original model?

Re: Monthly Design Challenge October 2016
This is my submission for this month, Recycled: Violence, Misinformation, Hate
Police shootings, terrorists attacks, etc. occur, a tragic loss of life
The media omits information, ignores evidence to the contrary, or twists the story.
The ignorant, the bigoted, and the sinister rally, fomenting distrust and anger.
Tensions rise, until inevitably another incident occurs and the story starts all over again.
This model is made from three 4:1 dual color rectangles interlocked.

OK guys... ten more days have passed and so far we have a single participant in the challenge. Don't forget you guys voted for this topic, so let's see what you have instored for the challenge !
You know what would be cool? To some day see a gallery with models like the ones you'll fold for this challenge in an art gallery . The exhibition could be called for example "Folded Consciousness". The name is just an idea. Anyway, people would study each artwork (fold), interpreting its message regarding different world issues. You know? That would be so cool!
So what would your art piece be like in that exhibition? What would you like to tell the world through it?... hmm.
OK guys, ten days for the end of the challenge!

Okay, so if no one else submits I don't want to win by default. Ahould we extend the challenge?

Re: Monthly Design Challenge October 2016
I won by default earlier this year (with an honestly terrible design, too), so probably there won't be an extension unless someone jumps in saying they're almost done and the judge sees fit to extendNepafarius wrote:Okay, so if no one else submits I don't want to win by default. Re: Monthly Design Challenge October 2016
I'd say the judge has the final word on this kind of affairs . But I can tell you that I don't see that it violates any of the rules I posted, well except for...

-State the details of the model along with the picture: Type of material? Number of sheets? Shape of each sheet? Size of each one and of the finished model? Cuts? Glue?

Sure, I'd say that's perfectly within the rules... Given that the IOIO is running at the moment and a lot of people will be busy with that, I am more than happy with any entry (even if it should violate the rules slightly )

Re: Monthly Design Challenge October 2016
(Perhaps you should make/have made this challenge's duration 2 months so it doesn't lose the people working on the olympiad tasks.)
Re: Monthly Design Challenge October 2016
That could be a good idea but I don't think it should be just up to me. It's very unorthodox regarding the tradition of the monthly design challenge. So what do you think guys, can we turn it into the October-November challenge?
It could be a way to face the disadvantage generated by the popularity of the olympiads. In that case, jeko would host the December challenge and things would go back to normal.
Please let me know if you agree or not.

Re: Monthly Design Challenge October 2016
I think we should stick with the pattern, and start a new challenge in November. If you carried it out another month, I don't think it would get enough entries to make the extra time worth it, just because its been the topic for so long.
But that's just my opinion.
