wow, so long since I visited the forum for the last time. I liked the new distribution of topics. I also loved the Tomoko's model, and the swordman is very impressive. Good models everybody 8)

I've folded from the master Hideo Komatsu the Lion for the very first time, in metallic bond 10x10 cm

Fox Terrier from Roman Diaz, also metallic bond 10x10 cm

and for christmas I made a set of videos for folding Steven Casey's nice Santa , here is the last one. Hope you like it. Greetings :)

What is black and white and red all over?
The traditional answer is the "newspaper"
However, the new answer is the "penultimate origami puzzle"
I decided to call this one penultimate because I have already folded the ultimate puzzle.

In this puzzle there are 80 pieces:

16 red elbow pieces
64 black and white slips

You must assemble the puzzle to find 16 patterns. There is just one solution but it might be derived in several ways.

I have two methods for creating the puzzle. In the first version the patterns on the black and white pieces are printed on rectangles and the red elbows are folded from rectangles. The advantage of this version is that the puzzle is very stable and can be manipulated more easily.

The second version is folded entirely from squares. The patterns on the pieces are created by folding over the white side (folding a color reversal). This makes the puzzle a significant challenge and great practice for folders but is also less stable. Folding the elbows from squares leaves less overlap when assembled and the pieces come apart more easily. The amount of overlap on the black and white pieces depends to some degree on the size of the square and the complexity of the pattern folded. Generally, the smaller the square used to make each piece - the less stable the piece (more likely to come apart).

I've folded two more models from Origami Essence before leaving for the CDO Convention but wasn't able to post them until now:

Geometric Bird by Román Díaz folded from a 15 cm square of Duo-Colour-Kami
Image

T-Rex by Joseph Wu & Román Díaz folded from an 18 cm square of Duo-Colour-Kami
Image

For the CDO Convention Contest "Means of Transport" I had designed a Tricycle which I kept revising during the convention until this scooter came out as result (folded from a 32 cm square of tissue foil)
Image

Here a picture of some of the steps to get from the Tricycle to the Scooter
Image

Diagrams for the tricycle and possible for the scooter (if I find the time to adapt the diagrams) will appear in the Christmas Origami Book

This Veiltail Angelfish was folded from a 30cm square of Gampi during a class by Satoshi Kamiya at the convention
Image

Andrea Michellini showed as a nice snake skin tessellation which I started folding from a 15cm square of Tant but was too lazy to finish and thus turned the rest of the paper into a boat instead
Image

I like the effect of three-dimensionality while the model itself is actually quite flat :-)
So long and keep folding ^_^

Here are some things I folded during convention.
First of a very nice chick that was supposed to become a duck, but I liked it far more the way I shaped it (the others who took the informal class as well). Unfortunately I don't remember the author, might have been Alessandro Beber.

Image

This is a very nice action model by Paolo Bascetta that I first folded by looking at the modules (4 modules with the dimension 1x2) and attached like I thought it could hold together well. Obviously I was wrong thinking far too complicated to get a nice lock. The purple-creme one is folded like it is supposed to be folded from the author after I got it shown.

Image

Here are some random things I folded in between. A working whistle that Vincente Palacios taught. A part of Satoshi Kamiya's Puzzle. A module to make a modular ball that's a variation of one of Carmen Sprung's stars. This egg thing that only holds together because of the curved creases. And a modular star/Frisbee that I folded while being bored.

Image

In the end Andrea Michellini showed us how to fold fantastic snake scales and a purse for credit cards and folded money. Both of this models are very useful and I think they are the best things I learned at the convention. You can make all kinds of funny things with the snake scales. Like I hold them on the picture they look like a hedgehog, but you can make all kinds of animals with them.

Other things I folded are Satoshi Kamiya's Rabbit and Veiltail Angelfish as well as some Tessellations.

Very nice foldings from the convention :D

Did Kamiya ever mention that he was going to diagram his rabbit? I love that model and it would be awesome if he diagrammed it.
