another interpretation of kawasakis' frog

Image

the simple leaf, the frog is resting on, was inspired by a similiar work of bernie peyton

I folded S.K. cyclomatus metalifer... I left some detail out on the body because it was pretty small... this is my first fold of this model. I used tissue foil (it was actually pretty thick still, I can never make tissue foil thin)

Don't be scared of the paper. Make the paper scared of you!

Satoshi Kamiya Loggerhead Sea Turtle
50 cm foil from origami-shop
diagrams in tanteidan convention #16

do yourselves a favor when you try this model, and do at least 40-50 cm. i made multiple attempts at 35 cm, and while certainly it is possible, the pleats you form circa step 70 are very stressful on the paper. larger sheets will tear less (this is if you're like me, and nicolas terry foil is the strongest, thinnest paper you've got--japanese foil is too too weak). another huge favor you can do for yourself is precrease steps 70-77 on ALL the relevant pleats before proceeding. once you collapse the creases, this locks the affected pleat in place, and the model won't lie flat for you to precrease the remaining pleats neatly if you do them sequentially. another favor you can do for yourself is precrease step 86 before collapsing any of the pleats.

I was gift wrapping today for my friends present. I wanted to glue something on the gift wrap but I couldn't decide what. So I just added some nice simple curves to the wrap:

Here is the gift I wrapped last year for the same friend:
