Sending Models by Mail

Post by gab »

So, I'm trying to get started selling some models online, to make a little much-needed money on the side. I've got pretty much everything figured out... except shipping.

The first issue is packaging things to make it across the country in one non-crumpled piece. Since most of what I'm selling is small and lacquered, that's not my big concern. What I AM stumped on is the price. When I look on Etsy (where I'm planning on selling), most origami jewelry ships for under $5. But everywhere I look won't ship even the tiniest item for less than $10. When the item itself is only listed for $15-20, I don't want to pay that and neither does the customer.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice helps. This is the one big obstacle to me getting started.

Maybe charge more and sell models in bulk. This would help "improve" the shipping price while not affecting the size very much. Other than that, though, I'm not sure.
After the fall, we rise.

Where are you looking that won't charge less than $10? The cheapest option is USPS First Class parcel. Small origami packages are usually less than an ounce (at least for me), and so the postage is usually less than $2. I do have some experience with Etsy so you can feel free to ask me questions.

Wow, I swear that option wasn't there when I looked before... Thank you! Your Etsy stuff is great, as well. Something to aspire to. :)
