Origami Project

Hello everyone, I’m doing an extended qualification alongside my A level work which involves writing an essay on a topic of my choosing. I chose to design an origami lobster and evaluate the result so I would appreciate it if you could take a few moments to give your opinion of my design.

Are there any particularly good or bad points you would like to highlight?

What do you think of the looks of the model?

What do you think of the efficiency/structure of the model based on the crease pattern?

What would you change about it?

Do you have any other comments?

A very good lobster! I like the tail the claws a lot. Its efficiency is also good and it's very well proportioned. I know negative criticism could be more helpful, but this model looks too good for that. There's nothing you should change about it, in my opinion.

The lobster looks really great. I couldn't make it like that, but if a look at a picture of a lobster there are a few things that might be perfected.

The entire body seems to be longer.
In your model the last two hind legs come from the tail instead of the torso of the lobster.

At first glance, maybe If you use one tail part for the torso both thing might be solved, but it it already looks really good, I'm afraid I can't help you with the CP structure and stuff because I have no knowledge of that.

Looking at the reference pic that roodborst posted, the real lobster's head comes to quite a point, and its antennae are significantly thinner than your one's. The real lobster's claws are really huge too, so it might be possible to address both of those issues by assigning more paper to the claws and less to the antennae.
I'm no expert on box pleated design, so I can't really tell if that would be possible or not, but that's the direction I'd look towards if I was trying to improve the design.

Alright I tried to get them approximately similar in proportions but as you can see that would be difficult to get it perfect as they are not the same picture (I believe I used the abdomen width for the proportion).

Deets you need according to this:
--longer fore-arms.
--longer/larger claws.
--head should taper off into a semi-point.
--longer thorax/abdomen section.
--skinnier antennae.
--skinnier tail.
--smaller tail fin thingys.
--in general just a little shaping for the body.

It's pretty sweet none-the-less. I'm just harping on it because you told me to.

EDIT:
Here is another interesting image. If someone can do it better, that would be much obliged otherwise this doesn't exactly do much I guess...


EDIT2:If you don't get any kick out of the second picture, just try doing stereoscopic/eye-crossing 3D methods and get a seemingly slight 3D lobster.
