Monthly Folding Challenge - April 2008

FOLDING OUT OF TIME – design and display one NEW model during the month of April which is based on anything which does or might exist 100 to 200 years away from the present date. You could go backwards to approximately the 19th century (1808 to 1908) or forwards to approximately the 22nd century (2108 to 2208). If you feel really compelled to take on an additional challenge, fold a model that represents an existing item from the 19th century and then another model based on what it might look like 200 years later.

I’m leaving the rules fairly open to encourage participation. Any starting shape, number of units, or any foldable material is OK. I like to use clear plastic overhead sheets for windows. You will probably loose points for using glue or making additional cuts but if you must then do it. You can base the model on some other source but the model should be an original design (your own creation) that will first be publicly displayed (not necessarily folded) during the Month of April 2008.

Finward is the judge for April and the person to propose the theme for May.

Good challenge, I have no idea what to fold yet Hopefully, there will be plenty more participants this time. The amount of folders participating in challenges on this forum and the french forum have both been going down recently (until March's very successful Mollusk challenge). Personally, I would hardly know what to fold without them

While my model is still in development I just had to post a prototype before someone steals my idea.

You can even turn it over so that it rests on the lid.
Oh look, there's something inside! Let's pull that out.

I forgot one my question:
Did you (or plan it) release some proceeding of Monthly folding challenge? BOS should make it, because this forum is UK.

I'm not quite sure what would be the benefit of publishing the submissions and results of the monthly folding challenges in a magazine, since they can be seen online anyway.

Also, this is an international forum and not a U.K. forum. Only because the domain name (and the forum owner) are from U.K. doesn't mean anything these days. The server might just as well be in a completely different country and you can get domain names from any country you want to

The challenges are just a good way to get people designing, I find. It doesn't matter if you win anything, having made a design is a reward in itself.

Updated version of my 19th century camera.

As temporary solution (until I found a tissue paper with the right shade of brown to make brown/black tissue foil for the model) I've glued (with MC) a sheet of black tissue paper unto the white side of gold foil paper.

I've also removed the unnecessary creases so that the box looks cleaner now and fixed some other minor stuff.

And the object lens is colour-changed now

Oh, you meant instructions. Well, for most of the models there are no instructions, since the designers didn't make them. Sometimes you will find links to CPs but that's about it.
