John Szinger - Classic Zing Dragon

Post by Mae »

Hi Everyone:)

I'm trying to fold the Classic Zing Dragon (link to instructions below ) but have got completely stuck on step 10..can anyone give me any advice please?

http://www.zingman.com/origami/zingoridragon.html

I've done the petal fold and everything looks as it should from the diagrams, but do I really need to unfold steps 8&9 as when I do it no longer looks anything like the picture on step 10 from which i need to do my next fold...

Also, I can't seem to find any good instructions on how to do a blintz frog base. I've found a couple of examples on youtube but the shots are obscured by peoples hands:( Does anyone know where there are any instructions?

I know there's a lot of questions there, but as this is a *hopefully* a gift for someone I'd be EXTREMELY grateful for any help anyone could give me!

Thanks for reading!!

Mae :)

I will try to help you.
Im sorry but i can't make a video or something.
Ok so what you need to do i Take the layer behind and unwrap it.
The petal fold you have is has 2 layers.
take the layer and unwrap it, to do that open the petal fold slowly, after you unwrap it you should be able to form step 10 with no problem.
I hope i helped...

Re: Blintz Frog Base

Brimstone made some excellent videos -

Here is a short discussion about the Blintz Frog Base:

And the complete Video:

(If the end of the video is not clear, see the partial ending here:
video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DrHFj4cbKc )

Sorry if I just pointed you to previously seen videos...

Hi. Thanks for the reply!

Argh! Sorry it must just be me being dense but I can't follow you:( Do you mean just to unfold the two 'top wings' on either side?

Hi Hank

Thanks for the links! Yes, these were the ones I was looking at before but they do seem to be making a bit more sense now at least:)

I have only one problem. On the second video link he pulls down a 'flap' from the top (about 3/4secs in) but I don't have anything that can pull down from there...have I gone wrong somewhere?

Let's try the First Video, instead of the second one.....

In the First video (complete), he pulls the flap from behind ~120 seconds.
Not sure where you might have gone wrong:

1. Fold the Diagonals and Book Folds.
2. Fold the Blintz base.
3. Collapse everything into a Preliminary Fold.
4. Convert all four flaps into the Frog Base.
5. Unfold the flap from behind as shown at ~120 seconds....

Try to get to that step, then we'll talk about the re-fold...
