3d origami/golden venture folding help

Post by Rapt0rzzz »

I make origami roses and would like to make vases that actually look good and are large enough to hold the size flowers I make. Here are some examples of the kinds of vases I want to know how to make:

I have found youtube videos and sites explaining how to make the modular triangular pieces but cannot for the life of me figure out how to make the vase get larger or smaller or change direction etc. Also I think most of the vases uses multiple size modular pieces. I did find a PDF for the book "3D Origami" but it is not complete and doesn't show how to make vases (just little cute figures which I have no interest in) It looks like the book "More 3D origami" has a vase in it:

Does anyone know if this book would teach me enough to make the vases I linked to above? And if not, could someone please reference me a book that will? I spent hours folding the triangles assuming I could figure it out and I can't for the life of me make a vase like any of those. Thanks for the help. (Keep in mind I can't read Japanese as I'm sure there are probably good books in Japanese on 3D origami but I wouldn't be able to understand them.) Thanks for any help you all can give me

I've wanted to do this for a while. I've looked at a few things but i can't think what to make first. From the instructions i've seen, Rapt0rzzz, you look for shapes or rings you could make, look at the proportions and number of pieces to work out how many each chunk takes. Not sure how to put the chunks together though. The swan on origami resource center might help. That's sort of where i picked up that idea.
