Yes, it´s a little variation of the simple Kawasaki-Rose (The edges are folded outwards instead of inwards).

Hi i'm new and i have been trying the kawasaki rose by C.A. Furuti. I just don't get the second to last step (14). It never stays together. I cant "iterweave the calyx".

I hope this works. It should show the video on how to fold the new Kawasaki-Rose after precreasing (step 17 to 29).
The diagrams used can be found here.

PS: Sorry unicycle281, I can´t help you on this. Maybe someone else can.

hey anna, I'm not seeing the video :-P What is the step that most ppl are having trouble with? Is it the curling into a cyclinder? I always thought locking the base was the hardest. One should get it after the 2 attempts though.

C.A. Furuti? Can you post up the link to the diagrams? Ok how about this- I'll post up the step by step picture files that really helped me made the rose.

http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~pnnguyen/rosephotos.rar

that's the direct link to it.

Remember the new Kawasaki takes patience and careful folding. But once you fold one you can fold many many more with ease :-) Just study the pictures and look at the diagrams included inside. I think the main question to ask when folding with the photos is, "How do I get my model to look like that step?" Position your model to match exactly with the photos and in no time you should have it done :P

It´s neither the old nor the new one, it´s a variation.
I believe that their is a mistake in the diagrams that makes it impossible to finish it the right way, but I could be false. Their is a very clear drawn diagram for the same rose in Kawasaki´s "Roses, Origami and Math" that works pretty good, but I can´t finish the rose using the above mentioned diagrams by C.A. Furuti.
unicycle281 wrote:Which is easier?
I would say the old one because it doesn´t need so much precreasing like the new one.

There aren´t diagrams for the old one available over internet, if you wanna try the original version you have to buy a book ("Origami for the Connoiseur" for example). I think the closest available for free are the instuctions on http://danoftoasters.org/?sample=no&page=3 . Also check out this thread: http://snkhan.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph ... in&start=0

Instructions for the new Kawasaki-Rose can be found here: http://www.ensc.sfu.ca/undergrad/euss/e ... page6.html

There are a lot of Variations out there, like this one: http://www.themountainfold.com/themount ... /rose.html
or this one: http://www.jongiejupgi.co.kr/docu/sub8_Npop1_18.htm
or this one: http://www.origami.cz/Pdf/rosa.pdf

Watch the above video, it shows how to go on after precreasing (following the Chan Diagrams!) until step 41 of the book, so the final shaping isn´t shown, but the requested steps.

Some "new" Kawasaki roses I have folded from various kinds of paper. Yes, I know, some of them could use more smoothing. :)
