[Graph] JOAS membership numbers 2001-2023

Post by Timoris »

(changed wording as sounded weird)
(changed chart to updated and corrected numbers)

As we wait for 204 and 2024's (technically 2023's) fiscal report, I have gone back 23 volumes and graphed the reported membership numbers.

Note: Membership denotes the tier with additional publications (yearly and with every issue as of 202) as well as voting rights and special meetings.

Subscribers* are specifically a different tier, thus the actual amount of adherents are unknown.

The reported numbers of Subscribers were 1,140 in 2001 and 1,111 in 2023

Below are the reported Membership numbers

That's very... dedicated of you, Timoris. Thank you. Hmmm... seems like the highest points were during the global quarantines.

You're very welcome!

In the first few years looked at JOAS mentioned how there was an increase in membership from the website

There's almost a doubling of numbers from 2005-2010 - my personal hypthesis was the Publication of Works of Satoshi #1 in 2005 put his creations in the spotlight, increasing interest in the art.

Even if the numbers continue to fall for 34, we have a stable plateau, if with a slight upwards trend, from 2010 onwards.

Membership may be down from covid numbers, but I suspect they'll be echos. Something will capture the zeitgeist, people pick it up again.

I predict that origami will settle in a happy medium - like the shallow seas of the Permian, we'll see a lot of bubbling of creativity with spikes here and there.
