Sorry, I guess that wasn't clear. What I meant was reversing the direction of creases (ie mountain to valley.) I did mean pre-packaged (what I have is "Japanese" foil from Origami USA.)
After folding a Lang grasshopper from paper several times (to become familiar with all the steps), I tried it with the foil. I ended up with a crumpled mess. :(
I will try your "white side up" technique to see if it helps me learn to work with the material. For display, of course, the foil looks much better on the outside (who ever heard of a white grasshopper?)

I know that's what you meant. Reversing from valley to mountain is easy with pre-packaged foil. And actually, it looks better folded with the white side out. That way you don't get all the cracking of the foil side. Also, foil photographs horribly.

You can buy foil that is a colored paper on white side and foil on the other. That way you could still have a green grasshopper. Also, you can color the white side before folding if you want, like with paint. Another thing, is you can stick a sheet of tissue paper in the color you want to the foil side. This is actually the best way to make tissue foil, because you still get a crisp sheet.
