Tom Hull's Pentagon-Hexagon Zig-Zag (PHiZZ) Unit
I have just made a dodecahedron using tom hulls zigzag unit. I must say that the units are the strongest locking units I have ever folded. I found that I could literally kick the dodecahedron like a soccer ball and it would remain intact. It is incredibly solid, and it looks interesting too.
The units are easy to fold too. Tom Hulls website is at
http://www.merrimack.edu/~thull/OrigamiMath.html
and the diagrams for the PHiZZ unit and some interesting info concerning it can be found at
http://www.merrimack.edu/~thull/phzig/phzig.html

I just hate doing modulars - I remember losing interest after my mum accidentally destroyed my soma cube which was made out of 120 papers!
Aaargh!
Would love to see pics of this amazing phizz unit sphere.

Hi thevoid,
Yeah diagrams for the making of the units and assembly of the soma cube are in a gem called Biddle's New Origami. This book is worth buying, it's got lots of models by different people, including the Pteranodon by Fumiaki.

As far as dodecahedron made from zigzag units is concerned I made something like this. Take a look:

Try not to care about the image quality.

Hi Stuckie27,
For making cube with sonobe units, I found this site, do you have other diagrams available on the net ?
Regards.
