waterbomb bases !!!Squares or rectangles?????

Hi I'm doing variations on a designers module and noticed quite a few start with rectangular
Paper.....when doing waterbomb bases there is excess that has go be tucked...who has successfully completed a ball using this method..I made a test module of 6 Szsz units and I already have gaps !!!!please advise
