I thought I start a topic about the process of editing pictures. For years I've been using notebook screens to view and edit my pictures, but I'm starting to suspect that it's better to use a desktop screen for that. So I've now connected my notebook to a desktop screen exclusively for that.

I've re-edited a picture I had taken last year, now using the desktop screen. The thing is I now feel insecure about how does the rest of the world see my pictures. Know what I mean? Can you please tell me which of the two look better and why?

The second one looks better because it looks crisper, not so blurry.
I would try to lighten the model up a bit though, especially in the bottom right corner.

I prefer the first image, as it has a better lightning and gives a better view of the object. On the other hand, like Anna wrote, it appears to be too blurry.
Best would be a picture with the lightning of the first and the crispness of the second.

That one is certainly crisper than the first one.

Although, I liked the dramatic shadows from the second one but it was a bit too dark. The third one is a nice in between photo.

I agree it is better than the first one but still a bit blurry.

Maybe if you just give a little bit of Gamma Correction to the second picture of the first post you can enhance it a bit without getting the blurriness of the first picture.

You guys are helping me a lot! I really needed this to learn a bit more about picture editing .

OK, I decided to start over with the picture. I took the unedited version and tried to make a more subtle edition. I tried to highlight the fold a bit and make the background a little bit dull. I didn't use any filters, so you shouldn't see any blurriness nor unnatural sharpness. I went for realism with this one. What do you think?




And here's another one. I wanted to make this other fold full of life by making the colors a bit intense, but not so intense that it would become unattractive. Know what I mean? Did I nail it or is it too intense?

Yes, that one is far better than the other pictures you posted so far.

For the tree, the colours seem fine to me, but I don't have a comparison to how it was before.

You are far, far better taking pictures to your liking first time out than trying to touch them up in editing software. Better to learn the principles of photography than tricks to to use photo editing software.

So how about everyone else? I hope I can get some more answers. What do you think of the picture I posted today, February 1st, of Scultping a Crane? And also, does Landscape (the red-yellow fold) look good with those intense colors or are they too intense for it to look good?

Thank you steingar. I have become better at taking pictures as well. I know there's a lot more I can learn, but I also know that, even after that, I'll still find things I'd like to edit afterwards .

What about the others who are also reading the thread but haven't shared their thoughts. What do you think about the picture of Scultping a Crane I posted on February 1st? And also, does Landscape look good with those intense colors or are they too intense for it to look good?

Thanks Tankoda. Are you referring to just Landscape or actually to both of them? If just Landscape, then I'd REALLY appreciate your thoughts regarding the four different pictures of Sculpting a crane. Which one do you prefer and why?

I second Steingar's statement. To me, editing photography consists of cropping and (occasionally) rotating the picture to get it level--basically the stuff you can do on the average smartphone.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about editing Baltorigamist . Could you please also answer my two questions?

The fourth picture of the crane model looks better than the first three, IMO. As far as the tree, I feel like the colors are too bold compared to the wall and background.
