Sketches

For my latest model I made my very first sketch as part of the design process. Most of the models I create are practical. My main concern in those cases is for the model to work and not so much how it looks. And regarding the few figurative and conceptual models I have created, I usually worked with a mental picture, but I never sketched them.

So I wanted to share the sketch with you guys:

And this was the resulting model :):

I know they have their differences. I simplified a couple of the things in the model and the top isn't as seamless as in the sketch, but I think I got close enough and I liked that.

Those of you who make sketches, please share them here. I showed you mine, now I wanna see yours :P.

I know for example JAPC has made sketches for creating models: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=79&p=137002#p137002

Gerado, I have to admit, that your sketch and the final model look quite similar, but in my eyes their expression and meaning is very different:
- The sketch shows a desk with chuckles.
- The model more looks like a table or box than can be opened at the top with two handles.
At least this is my interpretation. Maybe I'm still completely wrong.
The sketch probably would have been helpful as an explanation for the June challenge.

Thank you for your words and you're probably right Splunge. Now, the judge's and a fellow competitor's comments made me think they got my model and fold. Aside from that, I consider that if a figurative or conceptual model by itself isn't enough to express its referent and concept, then it isn't good enough. Finally, I'm already conversing about my model with different people through the O-list. This thread isn't about my model, it's about sharing sketches ;)!

So, do you make sketches when creating a model? Let's see one!

I figured out something . Some time in the near future I wish to share with you guys a sketch of a model that is beyond my origami skills. I just love the idea of that particular model and that's why I want to sketch it.

So... you can use this thread for the same thing. You might someday get a visit from your muse and find inspiration for a model you don't have yet the skills to create. If that happens to you as well, you can (for the time being) make a sketch and if you wish to share it, I'd be thrilled to know that you embedded it here :D.

Thank you in advance.

The following is the entirety of what I wrote on my paper when I designed "fight or flight," which I suppose is a very conceptual model that would work for this month. In the top left I sketched out somewhat of what I wanted: two people, one fighting and one flying. I don't normally draw tree diagrams but since this one was so complicated, I did; and everything else on the page was messy crease pattern testings.

And this is the final result. It looks different from the sketch because I realized it would require a much larger grid in order to get the legs of the flying guy, so I cut him off around the waist.

Thank you for sharing it NeverCeaseToCrease. Now, I can't see the images. I see placeholders instead :(.

This is the sketch:

But I think the black part kinda looks like a dress, which wasn't my intention :?.

Your sketch looks interesting, Gerardo. Can you explain what it's supposed to be? I see a human torso weeping on top of a mountain.

The "mountain" could also be a very wide dress (my first impression) or a river of tears...

Thank you :).

Atually, the black is supposed to be consuming and undoing the person. It's bigger than her or him.

The idea came from a very emotional conversation I had back then.
