Advice on books

Post by Yannick GARDIN »

Hi everybody !
I would like some advices on which book to buy. I'm interested in Dave BRILL's Brilliant origami ( on Amazon, there's an offer Brilliant origami + Origami for the connoisseur ).
I hesitate also for buying Passion origami by Nicolas TERRY (I think the models inside are too difficult for my level, I'm trying the 3 monkeys and it's hard !!)
What do you think ?

The three monkeys model is one of the more difficult models in the book; the other complex models there aren't as tricky to fold though. His website (http://www.passionorigami.com) lists the contents of the book, with model pictures, as well as difficulty levels.

If you consider yourself to be an intermediate / high intermediate folder, I'd recommend to start with Origami for the connoisseur + Brilliant origami first. Nicolas' book is terriffic, but it does take some more manipulations and some sculpting to bring out the best in his models. Brill's book will get you to the next level.

Eventually, you should get them all!

Here are direct links to these books on my webpage. You can
see what some of the models in them look like:

I hope this helps.

You can always just buy passion origami and save the most difficult models for later. I'm going to buy the book this summer together with some of the latest Tanteidan convention books and maybe some other books from origamihouse. (origami fantasy and issei super complex origami) I'd also like to get the booklets for Hojyo Takashi's Icarus and Violinist but I don't know if those are available.

Books I already have:

Works of Satoshi Kamiya (brilliant models, in my opinion not very hard to fold but it takes you a lot of time :))

Origami Design Secrets (really great book if you want to learn about designing models, has great diagrams too)
