Hands-on Presentations "Foldeas: Sharing Ideas Through Origami"

Post by Gerardo »

A project emerged from the Frankensteinian method hands-on presentation I had given over a month ago: "Foldeas: Sharing Ideas Through Origami". It's a series of hands-on presentations, all of them related to origami, by guest speakers from a wide variety of countries. The sessions will be once a month, every four weeks, always on Saturdays, but the time won't always be the same.

The next one will be on June 20th, 9:00 am (New York) / 2:00 pm (London). The guest speaker will be Trevas Chuang AKA Decadent Origamist: https://www.facebook.com/decadentorigamist

He has titled his session: "My Origami Journey", which will be about how Trevas has integrated origami to his life, his vision, and travels.

If you wish to register, send me an email message: gerardo(a)neorigami.com

Whether you plan to attend or not, I appreciate it if you share and repost the session's poster on your social media platforms and groups, asking others to also share and repost it. Thank you in advance and see you at the session!

Among others, Paul Jackson was one of the attendees. He praised Asha's perspective on teaching folding for it invites people to explore and be creative. Paul already accepted giving a future Foldeas presentation!

We did two activities following Asha's lead. Both of them involved exploring with pleats.

And this was the result of the second activity:

And these are some images from Ali's session :D.

Ali shared with us different stories from his personal origami journey. This is him as a child living in Japan:

Image

He has traveled back to Japan as an adult. Here he's doing a workshop:

Image

And this is part of an incredible story of a woman he met briefly in an international airport, and were able to reconnect thanks to an Iranian cook in Japan. She and Ali are friends :).

Image

This is the youngest creator Ali has ever met, who lives in a village in Japan.

Image

Ali treasures the folds she gave to him.

Image

This was during the session's Q & A.

Image

Ali taught us how to fold two of his own creations.

The following are some images from Paul Jackson's session. For many of us it was very enlightening as we took on the challenge of working outside our comfort zone!

Paul made a Facebook post about the experience: https://www.facebook.com/miri.golan/pos ... 0674380810

And Santrupthy Das (future Foldeas guest speaker) made a compilation book with all our works, which we now share with you: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Ufn52o ... -ZKo6nmRp/

We were to imagine & draft architectural works through folds, props, and proper photographs.

Paul encouraged us all to put on our designer hats during the workshop... HAHAHA!

This was Santrupthy's work:

And this Sheetal's:

Amanda made hers so big that she used it as background... just kidding!
