Naming origami models

Post by mkosmul »

I published a blog post about the naming of origami models at https://origami.kosmulski.org/blog/2021 ... del-naming which I thought you may find interesting.

In this post, I discuss issues related to naming origami models, some of which are not specific to origami but also affect other types of human creativity. I suggest the introduction of several terms which may be useful when discussing this topic, and present a selection of naming conventions used by different designers. Finally, I describe in detail the conventions I myself use, along with their rationale.

I'm interested in what you think about the topic and what naming conventions you yourself use - do let me know if you have any comments or additional thoughts.

Re: Naming origami models

I recently finished reading the article. Thank you for sharing it, mkosmul :). I particularly enjoyed the first half. It's fascinating the different traditions when naming models, and I missed a lot of the ideas you incorporated when I wrote my article about the same topic. The second half was too technical for my taste; I personally prefer that origami doesn't sound too much like taxonomy, but that's just me ;).

Thank you again, Michał!
