Hi guys,

So what's your favourite origami model? Mine would include the Kawasaki rose, Chessboard by John Montroll and Horse by Hideo Komatsu.

a hard to answer question. didn't we had this sometime before??? it's so hard to answer, because it depends on so many things like the time in the year (like around christmas), my mood and the reason to fold.

well, I would vote for the kawasaki rose, because it's very easy to fold and really nice looking.
Komatsu stuff always tends to be very well created and mainly fun to fold, so I wouldn't choose a specific model, but hideo komatsu himself for a favorite model
third would be Lang's Biplane, because it's relative easy to fold and very very gorgeous looking.

I love knowing what other people's favourite folds are. My favourite folds have changed a bit since the last time I listed them. (By the way - when you list favourites, write why!)

(1) Fujimoto's cube. Fun to fold - has the best folding sequence possible.
(2) Kawasaki's rose. So surprising that a square piece can create anything so curved and beautiful. And it works really well with kami.
(3) Kasahara's couch. Don't know why. I've known this fold by heart forever.
(4) Saburo Kase's vase. It had a lovely clean form in the end. It has an excellent lock. It is a great vase.
(5) Jun Maekawa's peacock from a square. I just love the tail tessellation. It is exquisite.

Yep, but it was on the O-List, not here.

Like Boaz said, my favorite list just keeps on changing. Right now I guess my top five would be:

1) Patricia Crawford's Full-Rigged Ship ("Origami Step by Step"/Robert Harbin): I've always wanted to fold it, and now I can. I think it's beauty speaks for itself. I also LOVE the unusual folding sequence, and the a-symetricity of the model.

2) John Montrol's Stegosaurus ("Prehistoric Origami"/John Montrol, and others): Again, I just love the unusual folding method that produces the scales. And again, I just love that this model is not symetric (you'd never tell just by looking). And it's one of the first complex models I ever folded. It was also a revolutionary model for it's time (Robert Lang told us at PCOC that this model probably inspired Fumiaki Kawahata that designing detailed dinosaurs is possilbe, and the result - "Origami Fantasy").

3) Jun Maekawa's Devil ("Viva Origami", Tanteidan #56, Hugo Pereira's site): It just looks great, even from kami. And also a revolutionary model for it's time.

4) Mark Kirschenbaum's Fluffy ("Mark's site): Cute, Cute and Cute (If those damn eyes would only color-change more easily )

5) Spring into Action (I frogot the designer's name, diagrams appear in Lang's "Origami in Action" [???]): Fun, Fun, and Fun!!!


And Fred Rohm's dollar bill would have also made it if only it didn't start with "Fold to the middle of the 'I'". Dollar bills just aren't that common outside the U.S...

Spring into action by Jeff Beynon. I remember the countless sleepless nights I had trying to break into this model; but my perseverance paid off!

hmm...it changes often but the top ten are:
1)Panda-Montroll-Awesome two-tone-ness.
2)Buddha-Hojyo Takashi-Complex,but flowing,nice look.
3)Fox-Hideo Komatsu-Nice finish, curvy without wet folding.
4)Dragonfly-Kawahata Fumiaki-I like the stipes.
5)Folding the Flapping Bird-Jeremy Shafer-Just Cool.
6)Basketball Court(reverse engineered)-Jason Ku-Both school basketball teams want one.
7)Roses-Kawasaki-Popular with the ladies .
8)Traditional Chinese Junk-I like the box to boat trick.
9)Frog-Lang/Robinson-I like the toes and eyes, made by two people, fairly much the same idea.
10)Chocobo-Satoshi Kamiya- Come on! its a Chocobo for Pete's sake! Who wouldn't want one of these? And they come in any color of the rainbow, just like on the video games!

P.S. the next things I will design/fold:
Ashura and Brimo/BFCC and Brill Elephant

By the way Rob, did I meet you down by the HUDSON once?
