As far as I can tell, the only option is to take a screenshot.

If you plan to open it in CAD, you can also export it as .dxf

Well, I just learned that .dfx, one of the export options in Oripa, can be opened by CAD software in general. I might be able to get access to a CAD software at my university and check to see what export options it has. Too bad Oripa doesn't make an automatic graphics file ...

I can help you with that, seeing what files can be exported to a Cad program (TurboCad), but I cant seem to open Oripa to try it. So if you can help me through that, I can possibly help you.

I downloaded Oripa and have the latest Java (v6 ?) but cant seem to open Oripa.

Thank you
Quentin

I also couldn't open it at first. I had the latest Java, but I didn't have the Java 3D API, which can be downloaded here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/java3d/

Once installed, double-clicking on the oripa031.jar (0.31 is the latest version) will open the program.

As an aside, I'm so glad that the newer versions are in English. When it first came out, years ago, I got scared away by the Japanese. I now find this program amazing - it's the easiest thing to now make crease patterns. The only issue is now how to make a portable graphics file.

For the life of me I cant seem to get this thing running. I got the 3D Java, where do I find oripa031.jar. to open?
I only get an oripa file with empty files and nothing to open!

On this page:
http://mitani.cs.tsukuba.ac.jp/pukiwiki ... p?Download

download where it says Latest Version, the oripa031.jar file.

Once you download it, just double-click on it.

Thanx, but I did download it and when I double-click on it, it open a window with many files, none of which actually opens the program, I can only open the "icons" in gif format, some Class files, an MF file and other files that Windows doesnt open!

Maybe I'm just a lost cause to the computer world!

Anyway, I got my TurboCad users manual out and TurboCad can read the following formats:
3DS, 3DV, BMF, BMP, CGM, DC, DCD, CGN, DWF, DWG, DXF, EPS, FCD, FCW, FP3, GIF, GEO, IGS, JPG, MTX, PDF, PLT, PNG, SAT, SHX, SKP, STL, STP, STEP, SVG, WMF, WRL, WRZ, XLS,

Hope you can make sence of that!

That is very strange. I wonder if you have the .jar extension associated with another program that can't open it properly. If you right-click on it, and go to Open With, the program used to open it should be called "Jave(TM) Platform SE binary".

It looks like TurboCAD can handle quite a lot of graphics formats :) Thanks for the info! I guess other CAD software are similar.

Is it a ZIP file thingamajig? If so, look for the file with the "Application" label next to it.

I don't think you can associate a jar file with a program. What you could do is create a bat file with the instructions to change directories until it finds the orips files and then execute the line java -jar oripa031.jar

Or you can manually change the directories until you get to where oripa is and type java -jar oripa031.jar and then enter

The entire Oripa program is just the file oripa031.jar, and as I mentioned, my computer is opening it with "Java(TM) Platform SE binary".

I looked up on filext.com what .jar files are normally associated with, and here's what I got:
"Java Archive, Compressed file package for classes and data. This is a special .ZIP format unrelated to the ARJ .JAR archive format. The JAR file format is based on the standard ZIP file format with an optional manifest file."

So it appears that Java uses .jar files as its own version of a zip type file. The trick, I guess, is to have Java open and run it automatically instead of trying to open the folder and files that are compressed inside it.

I wonder if your zip opening program (WinZip, for example) is automatically trying to unzip the file. If so, you'll have to specifically choose to open it with Java instead of your zip program.
