Hi, I've been thinking about folding an insect or bug-type thing because I've never done one. I have 35 x 35cm tant in all colours and origami-shop's 30x30 tissue foil. Can I make any decent insects from these?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

There aren't many insects you can do with Tant, but just about anything would work with tissue foil.
If you have Robert Lang's books with insect diagrams, I'd recommend the Treehopper in Insects & Their Kin for a first insect--it's pretty easy. Between that and the Orb Weaver.

Okay, thanks. I didn't really think the tant would be that useful for insects, I'll definitely have a look into that book though.
Also, I have a beigey sheet of 50x50cm elephant hide. Any ideas what I could do with this, not an insect, just anything you think'll go well with it.

There's a camel in one of the Tanteidan magazines, might be too thick though. And I'm not sure whether it's out of print or not.

Do a fold-through--i.e., fold everything in order.

Unless of course the author suggests differently.

well it isn't exactly from simpe to complex. first there are a couple simple models, then something like his Roc and comples cardinal, then another simple model, etc, etc, etc it's sort of random

It sounds like there is an arrangement. There must be something about doing some of them early on that allows you to understand others better. I bet that there's a complicated step in roc that may have 5 or so pictures for it in roc, but many less in later models, and the only reason roc was put there was because it was clear to demonstrate.
It's also a challenge. Feel chuffed with yourself early on and you're more likely to carry on reading.

Paper: Tant 35*35cm, Foil up to 50*50cm
Model difficulty: any, as long as it's a worth while model
Suggest me anything you can come up with, I'm having a bit of a drought, and can't come figure out what to fold.

Depends on the color.
My Flickr and DA have the crease pattern for my Wheaten Terrier, which might work with Tant (not sure about the thickness, though).
