i was thinking of buying the book origami design secrets and i was wondering what it teaches you if anything and if it is a good book for me to buy.

If you're interested in technical folding, yes, you should get it.
If you're a masochistic folder, yes, you should get it.
If you are an origami book collector, yes, you should get it.

"masochistic folder"? Why? What is in there to make it be for masochistic folders?
Anyway, I don´t think origami is for masochists!
BTW, i ordered it several days ago... taking sooo long!

After receiving it, read it very carefully. It only has 585 pages and is written in an amusing Lang style, so you should be done with it very quickly. Always fold the models when they appear, or even better fold the "Ruby-Throated Hummingbird" first. Take care to fold it with normal printerpaper to increase fun. After doing all that come back and tell us again if this book is for masochistic folders or not

Finally it´s delivered!
Now, to read it!
Ahh, btw (a bit off topic), I usually fold from printerpaper. Only because It´s easy to find and is cheap. Here in my city, things that are not of a common demand are impossible (or near it) to find!

I think I may have found an error an page 307. In the table it says that there are 5 corner flaps and 1 middle flap in a base with 5 points

Yeah, that's an error, it was pointed out a while ago (like, when the book first came out) on the o-list - search the archives.

Yup, should be 4. Thanks, I've noted it in errata for the next edition.

This is an amazing book! I recently got it from the library and learned (or attempted to learn) some models... sadly, I didn't have enough time to make everything that I wanted to

I agree. Totally awesome book. Has given me much greater insight into how models are designed, as well as containing some incredible diagrams.

It also has possibly the greatest turtle diagram ever, I love this book and keep coming back to it.

Wordgames, are you talking about Eastern Pond Turtle? If so, can you post a pic? I have only ever seen Robert Lang's pictures, and I want to see other results.

In my copy of the book, it's the Western pond turtle. Not that I would know the difference between a Western pond turtle and an Eastern pond turtle if I saw one.
Whatever it's called, I folded one. Actually, folded two of them, since the first one didn't turn out very well.
