If anyone is writing a book JUST to make money then that person will be sorely disappointed. But that statement is true for all things in life.

Only a few authors make enough money to adequately compensate them for the time spent writing the book.

Of course, your definition of adequate compensation may be different than mine.

I think the main reason that anyone would write a book would be not for the money but for the convenience and enjoyment of their fans/customers. If you want to make money go into manufacturing. Shuki said it was his "dream" (hint hint) to make a book, never did he mention anything about the money, thus, i do not think he cares.

I don't know that discussing the realities of publishing an origami book in a general origami forum is "way off-topic," in fact I think it is a topic that deserves more discussion, hopefully so more people would publish their diagrams... but to each their own. I'll just note that I do hope Shuki Kato publishes a book!

Shuki, if you were to diagram or make a book, how will the diagrams be like (of the complex models), as it seems that most of the stuff you design starts with collapsing the cp followed by shaping, so will the diagrams be full diagrams or cp followed by diagrams for the shaping, because it must be really hard to make full diagrams of your models (just think zaonoid dragon = 1000 steps )

Full diagrams for sure, at least up to the complexity of my latest beetles. That might mean some models would have ~300 steps with half of that precreasing, but I don't see anything wrong with that. There's the option of diagramming something like my zoanoid dragon, like you said, starting out with the CP, showing how to collapse it, and finally adding all the shaping folds, but honestly, I probably won't even venture there.

If you won't "venture" somwhere now, you should later. Diagramming is tough. Using Adobe Ilustrator is professional but slow but Origami SD is quick but not too good if you want the world's clearest diagrams. If Satoshi Kamia can do it, Shuki Kato can.

Now that the holiday season is over, I'm finally beginning to work in earnest. The first diagram I am starting off on is the Western Dragon V3. Once the diagrams are finished I will preview one page (perhaps the last one).

perhaps, I could proof read some of your diagrams as you go along

As someone who is able to collapse CPs, one thing I've always wanted is a diagram where the references abd shaping are fully diagrammed, but the collapse itself is left ot the folder. You don't have to do that, but it's just a suggestion.
BTW I love your work, Shuki.

I hate collapsing stuff.
I am working on Joisel's Dwarf now from CP and collapsing it was easy, but normally, i despise collapsing.

I like collapsing, but i hate sinks.

it just depends
printer paper, in my opinion, is the best for practicing collapsing.
