^ Indeed. Most of the films made of books and specially video games suck. I never enjoy them.

I'm not into books a lot but speaking of my favorite, it's surely Harry Potter novels. The films are fairly good, too.

I agree with you there. About the only thing I liked was the score, which was admittedly very good. (But, of course, it's Patrick Doyle, so what do you expect?)

Black Coffee (Agatha Christie)
Like Water For Chocolate (Laura Esquivel)
Diary of a young girl (Anne Frank)
Uncle Tom's Cabin (Harriet Beecher Stowe)
One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel Garcia Marquez)
The Burden of Proof (Scott Turrow)
Bel Ami (Guy de Maupassant)

Most of my favorites are crime, mystery, romance, and survival stories.

A story of vengeance. BTW, He's truly a great author. His short stories were also wonderful. I really admire writers from the early 18th century.

The average writing style has changed so much since then. If you read 'journey to the center of the earth' (original text-unabridged) you will find that they were treating everything as if it had to have a reason, that they were taking the expedition the right way, the only way to hand, with no electricity, and that was Jules Vernes, much later on, and he was considered a pioneer into a more modern style of writing. Go back to the early 18th century, science fiction like that hadn't even been invented.

Indeed. I look forward to reading those kind of novels. Honestly, I'm not a fan of sci-fi. I really enjoy the stories of people who had lived in this world in the absence of today's lifestyle and technology. I would rather read fantasy or magical stories but not to the kind of contemporary ones being enjoyed by most people nowadays.

Anything by Tom Clancy or Dan Brown. I'll read just about anything, though.
Jules Verne is another good author.

1984 was a great book. I just finished reading "The Histories" by Herodotus. These are probably my two favorites.
