I live in Malaysia. Malaysian citizens are only allowed to apply for their driver's license after their 17th birthday. This might be because the people here are a lot shorter
I've fallen down, and I can't get up.

Or because they know what they're doing. I think there are too many young and irresponsible drivers in America. I got rear-ended by one...
In Japan, the legal driving age is 18. And, training is much more rigorous, strict, and lasts much longer that it does in America. All students are required to know how to drive both automatic and manuals. I think this, along with the avaliability of public transportation, greatly reduces the number of ingorance/alcohol related accidents.

And do you need to drive at 17? I have 32 and had only two situations, when driving would be usefull.

In the US in New York City, for example, you might not even need a car. The public transportation system is very extensive there and driving there seems like such a hassle anyway. In other cities there is not such a great public transport system (like where I live, for instance) and a car is pretty much a necessity to get where you want to go.

Move to Europe, to our place. We celebrate something right now with whole family, about 50 people and, trust me, it is very hot... inside!

oh the long ago days when I started driving. I too started when I was 15, legally of course.

I did have driving licences for armoured military vehicles, as well as "bush ambulances" back in my army days.
