So I'm getting ready to buy a new telescope and am thinking of getting this one: http://www.telescope.com/control/produc ... t_id=27183

Does anyone have experience with 8" or larger reflector scopes on dobsonian mounts?

I haven't had any experience with Dobsonian's partly because of their price, my age and also because I haven't found one with a telescope actually in it.

I'm thinking about getting a newtonian reflector.

possibly this one.

or possibly:

I found a great video of Extrasolar planets:
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Z5NGWe44VqI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The planets going through the video are:( as far as i know)
Hypothetical Planet around HD 69830
One of the Above's Planets ( Probably HD 69830 d
Unknown
Unknown ( although similar to HD 98800)
HD 188753
Again, HD 188753 (as seen from a Hypothetical Moon of Ab)
Probably Gliese 581 c
Unknown
HD 149026 b
Unknown ( similar or same to one above)
Unknown
HD 209458 b
Unknown ( although apparently in a Highly eccentric orbit)
HD 209458 b ( Unofficially Osiris)
Possibly Gliese 581 c
Probably Earth
Earth?
Earth ( with A Hurricane)
Mars ( sunset)
Earth ( from Space)
Unknown

I am collecting Data from two websites to make a list of potentially Habitable/Potentially habitable moon/may form to be Habitable Exoplanets.

Potentially Habitable:
Gliese 581 c/d
Gas Giants with Potentially Habitable Moons:
55 Cancri f
HD 28185 b(this Planet may not exist)
HD 69830 d( may lie inside Habitable zone)
HD 20367 b
HD 12661 b
HD 40979 b
Stars with Debris Discs which may indicate planets in the Habitable zone
HD 98800(this is a Double Double Star)(the Habitability of it depends on the type of Star-their type is unknown)
The Planet Mentioned here
I will look for more later.

Just wanted to share that I received my new telescope!

On the left is my old telescope, on the right is my new, awesome telescope!

Image

I've been viewing M42 (Orion Nebula) a lot, along with Saturn. I'm still getting used to it's massive size (height is a little over 60 inches, or about 1.5 meters, and weight is 70 pounds, or about 32 kilograms). I also need to learn how to use the computer that came with it. I'll post some photos of deep sky objects once I get more used to the telescope!

I am now making the list in the last post into a Excel Spreadsheet (2004). I will put all the Extrasolar Planets I can find information (distance)of into it. PM me if you want a copy when I'm done!

and gratz Notefolds! ¦-)

A very nice Dob!
What filters, if any, are you using for Saturn?

I've been touring Messier globulars recently, as the skies have been reasonably clear for once.

I have found a neat space simulation called Celestia that lets you see
the Solar System or beyond it!

Very detailed with some cool options along with it.

The only problem is that it might have too many graphics
for your computer.
Keep on trying, it will work.

Mars, That's what I used for my previous post  It's very good, there are a few flaws, but i'm using it for my Excel Planet Database :D
It doesn't slow this Computer down alot, although it does make the Laptop make noises like a Hairdrier when I have 2 other Pages up
P.S Mars, if you put it on your Computer click on file at the top to take pictures or Movies :)

I thought you used that program
earlier for that picture. Although,
I have used Celestia before, but my
Windows XP can't take its high performance right now...
Keep on trying, it will work.
