Sharing CPs for origami typography

Post by pejoar »

Hi! I am a Brazilian graphic designer and origami lover. There is an annual challenge for typographers, calligraphers and graphic designers called "36 Days of Type", when people create new designs (using different medias, from ink and paper to 3D animations) for each letter of the latin alphabet + numbers. Maybe a lot of you already know it at #36daysoftype on Instagram.

For this annual edition, #36days_07, I wanted to use origami to create the letter/number, but tried to replicate specific typography characteristics, like serifs, contrast of thin and thick lines, terminals and "classic" proportions. So I created a general serif-styled font in paper. I also wanted to use paper like a sculpture in certain points, so I used a little of CMC to shape some curves. These are my first creations!

I would love some feedback, on the designs themselves, the photos of each character (you can see each one on my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B9PZnhgFInp/ ) and on the graphic display of the crease patterns that I would like to share here. I would love to see other people folding them and sending ideias. I created this PDF under a Common Copyright claim; feel free to share it and fold it, but please give the appropriate credit as well!

That's the most elegant origami font I've seen :-D! Congratulations and good luck in the challenge.
