Giraffe Beetle (BKG)
Folded from a 12 inch square of orange splatter unryu backed with black unryu. 4 inches long, 3 inches tall.
Designed for the Origami Forum's 15˚ challenge. I was working on some ideas for beetles, and saw that it would be easy to combine the 15˚ angles of Komatsu's Giraffe with the 15˚ flaps I was using for the legs. This design took only one day because most of the work was already done!
Yes, it does have a mesocentrum! As we origami people know, that little triangle is absolutely essential to being a beetle!
I tried to do more with the legs than the double thick unryu would allow me. When I fold my super kozo/Origamido version, they will be much better!
Hehe, from this angle it looks like a samurai helmet beetle!
Tribute to Hideo Komatsu. I wish Mr. Komatsu good health!

About 8 inches long, 3.5 inches high, 2 inches wide, from a 16 inch square of red unryu backed with black unryu.
I designed this at the Origami USA convention, and after a few tweaks, this is the complete design. So late, despite being among the first to know about the challenge! (I was part of the group that decided on it.)

Robin
First draft
Folded from a square of tissue-foil (orange American foil backed with black tissue paper.
I accidentally made the beak too early in the folding sequence, referencing it against the visible part of the head before doing the wings. Folding the wings exposes more of the head though, so the beak is too small. This bird is 100% closed.
