Origami-Artist-Galen

Post by origami-artist-galen »

[originally: Origami-Artist-Galen's (Shuki Kato) Gallery]

I thought it was time to make make a gallery so here it is! I'll only be posting new stuff here so expect models from Origami Essence and my own designs if I can come up with anything.

To start off, a slightly updated version of my Evangelion Shogoki folded from a 25" square of Nicolas Terry's special pearl tissue foil:

Wow, that is the best rendition I have seen yet. I look forward to seeing more of your models.

Yes, it is excellent! I love how you update your own designs to produce variations of it - well done. The paper choice is also great - I'd love to fold with it sometime! I'm looking foreward to seeing other models that you put in this gallery!

Thanks guys!

The paper for this one worked out great, at least much better than I expected, it's still a bit flimsy though compared to the tracing paper rendition.

I'll probably post something new on Thursday or Friday when I finish my homework (my macroeconomics class is hard! :( ).

I have a quick question about your tracing paper - if you know, do you use parchment tracing paper, or regular? I'm using some 41 gsm parchment stuff for my second tracing paper Ryu Jin attempt, and it's turning out to be a pretty good material. When I looked at the pre-creasing for your 3.5 out of tracing paper, it looked like regular, but when I tried out of regular, the paper tore hopelessly... hmmmm Image

insaneorigami: I've always used Strathmore 300 series tracing paper (for no real reason really, I'm just comfortable with it), as far as I know, it's pretty regular and not the parchment type. I don't know, I've been using tracing paper for a long time now, so I guess I'm just used to it. One thing is I always add the smaller details (in the Ryujin's case, the reverse folds and shaping of all the claws, as well as all the folds on the head not shown on the CP) after I dampen the whole model with water, I think that may have something to do with it.

Anyway, I'm sure parchment tracing paper will work great (I've never tried it myself, maybe I should?) and I'm looking forward to your finished Ryujin:)

What's parchment tracing paper anyway?
I've fallen down, and I can't get up.

I assumed it was this stuff:

https://www.dataprint.com/store/p-17761 ... 0-338.aspx

I've never even seen it in real-life myself, but from the looks of it, it just seems to be, well, better quality. The thickness of 41 gsm is the exact same though.

Haha, yeah, Shuki, we are using the same stuff, I think. 41 GSM, 19 inches wide, and 24(?) inches long? Comes in yellow pads of 50 sheets? Yeah, I looked at the pad, and it's Strathmore 300 series :D. Is this it:? http://www.flickr.com/photos/slipknotor ... 296118548/
if it is, than it says on the bottom left: A transparent parchment tracing paper :).

I see, I guess I was wrong then. I never realized that Strathmore was also parchment paper, doh!

I'm running out of tracing paper all the same, and I think I'll experiment with some of that Biefang paper next.

Wow, it's been a long time since I last made any posts here....

I recently got a hold of Quentin Trollip's marvelous new book! Here are a few photos of some of the models I've done so far:

Great White Shark; from a 40 cm square sheet of Nicolas' tissue foil
Image

Orangutan; from a 12" square sheet of Thai Unryu
Image

Gemsbok; from a 40 cm square sheet of Nicolas' tissue foil (partially painted on one side)
Image

African Elephant; from a 35 cm square of tant paper

Beautiful models! I like the Details, teeth (asymmetric numbers!!), scales, and details on the wings.
