Christian - when you folded the Yoshino T Rex skeleton did you find that the lower jaw had to be glued to the head for it to hold together?
nope. I had some problems fixing the tail pieces, so I used some glue to make sure they wouldn't fall apart, but I had no problems with the head.

lately, I found some very nice transparent-paper from which I folded the Lafosse-bat and the Kawasaki-rose, take a look:

click the link and reload the page to see the pic, lately my provide started to forbid direct picture linking :/

I like the firerose-look :) and the bat look also very nice with that blue paper.

Oh, maybe this info isn't of much use for you, because I'm from Germany. I found it in a big art-store in one of my neighbour cities. it was quite expensive, and it's hard to fold because it's more foil than paper.

I folded Brill's Christmas Tree Fairy. I think it's one of the best I've seen!

yesterday, I've folded "Sam, the marionette" and it took me 7 hours to finish, because it's made from more than 40 pieces of paper. take a look at it:

(I have added another square for the throat that is missing in the original model)

the other day, I've folded Montroll's Lobster from a very very thin paper, and it looks even better than my last one. on the following picture is also Manuel Sirgo's spider model. I've modified the finishing process a bit, because I like the spider the way it looks now :)

diagrams for the marionette and the spider are available at

Commercial Origami (again)

Post by saj »

That spider looks amazing! I've downloaded the diagrams and hope to make it soon.

I've got another commercial offer - I need to fold some Christmas gifts, what models would you recommend? When I went to the meeting they had an amazing (2D) Christmas tree made from 1 piece of (I think) 1 X 4 paper. It seems like quite a simple model, but I didn't get the chance to take it apart!

Let me know of what Reindeer / Santa / Christmas models you know of.

Thanks,

saj

I've also been into the insects lately. Folded the Butterfly, Praying Mantis, Samurai Helmet Beetle and Paper wasp from Lang's Origami Insects and their Kin. The result can be seen on my page under insects.

I don't have Origrami Insects II, but from what I've heard it's supposed to be easier than Lang first insect book. So is it me, or is OIatK the most challanging book there is?
Cheers!

I started to dislike Lang stuff. he's model's are nearly always good to boast but I miss the fun in folding it. I like the insects book, but there are so often too hard folding processes, that are taking the fun out of origami. hmm... nevertheless, I have folded most of the models out of the first insects book :) I would like to have the second one, but don't want to order it in America or Japan.
I would always prever folding a Montroll, Komatsu or Brill if I would have the choice.

greetings

I just folded Marc Kirschenbaum's Drummer and that was pretty complicated, plenty of spread squashes and closed sinks ect. I took me a good 3-1/2 4 hours to fold. and he said that it was one of the easiest models in his book paper Harmony.

Marc Kirschenbaum's site is http://marckrsh.home.pipeline.com/

as far as santa's go, there are a ton on the net and in books. I know there was a page I have seen on the internet that showed a host of them I thought it was on Bits of Smits http://www.users.waitrose.com/~pureland/ but, I seem unable to find it there. you might want to search the site more.

anyways there is a whole bunch of santas, I can think of Brill in Brilliant Origami, and Kasahara, and there is one here. http://www.ulster.net/~spider/santa2.htm

I would just do a search, on the wonderful database of yours.
