Re: Orimin
quyet's only will work with wet folding though, orimin's looks like it could be made from kami or just about any paper.
box pleating...improve patience? just makes me go insane.
i lose patience very easily with crease patterns.
this summer when I am in germany though, i will probably be doing loads of origami, so i will definitely try some cp's.

That's one of the reasons I like it--not very strict about paper.phillipcurl wrote:quyet's only will work with wet folding though, orimin's looks like it could be made from kami or just about any paper.
I've been driven to near-insanity myself with a model I designed for a friend of mine. I still need to fold it because I haven't come up with a sequence yet.phillipcurl wrote:box pleating...improve patience? just makes me go insane.

Baltorigamist: Thank you!!! Yes, you can make my heart with wings from regular paper and even in photo it is made from kami.

I second this thought.PauliusOrigami wrote:Hi sir, i really like your Ryujin. Will you make a CP?
At least I want to see how it is constructed.

Re: Orimin
looks like quite a lot of flaps for that head. the model itself looks like it has over 30 flaps.
i would also like to see how its made, i probably will not fold it anytime soon though.

Re: Orimin
Box pleating references are harder to find than 22.5 ones as much of the time the folder has to precrease awkward grids such as 39x39,etc. Finding and making references for 22.5 degree models is easy for anyone with a basic knowledge of pythagoras' theorem and the refernce finding sequences can also frequently be quite fun. 22.5 degree bases are not only more efficient than box pleated ones but more elegant too, you are not restrained to the square flaps of box pleated bases but the layers can all line up if you want them to.phillipcurl wrote:Personally, I like 22.5 and circle packing better than box pleating, although the references may be harder.
its just a lot less precreasing and its more efficient.
Bases generated via circle packing, however, are the epitome of all that I find disgusting in origami. You have to spent ages finding obscure reference points and folding a base where all the edges don't line up!! And this is all in the name of efficiency. I would say that this is and example of how a purely mathematical analysis of how to design the best model on one criteria ( efficiency) does not work in practice.
And 22.5 degree bases can warrant just as much preceasing as a box pleated base- just look at komatsu's lion! Whilst I bet it doesn't appear to have the same amount of creases as a box pleated model, those who have folded it will know it takes twice as long to precrease as your average box pleated monstrosity.

Re: Orimin
I agree, circle packing is much more efficient and less time consuming.
EDIT: i meant 22.5! sorry.

Re: Orimin
Really nice Ryu Zin!It's almost unbelievable that its CP is that simple!
About the 22.5 vs boxpleating discussion, it seems to be very relative. I think 22.5 designs have such fluid folding sequences and boxpleating designs are usually more repetitive and mechanical... but that's a rule, just a trend.
